LOOOVE this recipe. I eliminated the cayenne & peppers & found it to be really flavorful- the red beans have alotta flavor. It's also super filling. I would use low sodium chicken broth though- between the beans and the salt, you're in for some serious bloat.

We made this soup earlier this week. I let the soup simmer for about 2- 21/2 hours and it was really really good. My four kids all wanted seconds. We will certainly be keeping this in our rotation.

For those who dont think this has enough taste and kick...add a can of Rot-el toms and use Ranch Style beans.

It was actually sorta bland for me, so I kicked it up with some tabasco sauce, lime extract, more cayenne pepper, and some garlic powder, and it turned out pretty good. Maybe it's just me, but I like mexican spice, so it may not be very delicous to anybody else.

The soup is tasty but a bit bland for our tastes. Not quite sure what I'll add next time. Perhaps a haberno that's just been punctured a couple of times to let it simmer.
I was a bit surprised to see that the juice of the beans from the can was added. I suppose it helps thicken the soup a bit. I've not decided whether I'll modify this next time.
Oh and I too used smoke sausage since andouille doesn't seem to be very common in Florida.

This recipe was similar to jambalaya but the beans definitely set it apart, I did a few things different. I used smoke sausage and cooked it in cajun seasoning because I couldn't find andouille sausage. I also added chopped jalapenos to make it a little spicier and it was great! It made a big batch and it was gone in minutes, it had the right amount of spice....it seemed too watery at first but once the rice was added it thickened up a lot and was perfect. I will definitely be making this recipe again.

I made this for lunch guest on the spur of the moment. It was wonderful and very healthy. My guest loved it. I did substitute smoked turkey sausage in place of the pork sausage the recipe called for. This one is a keeper.

Red beans were a little hard to find in our area (Whole Foods saves the day, but well worth it. Very flavorful and filling, perfect for cooler weather.

This is the first time I have reviewed a recipe. My husband and I really enjoyed this simple recipe, finding the flavors perfectly balanced! A very comforting dish for a rainy night in autumn..
