Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • Caramel Sauce, for garnish, recipe follows
  • Confectioners' sugar, for garnish

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Spread the pecan pieces and the chocolate chips evenly on the bottom of the pie shell.

In a mixing bowl, whisk the remaining ingredients together. Pour the filling over the pecans. Bake until the filling sets, 50 to 60 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for 30 minutes before slicing. Cut into individual servings and serve with a drizzle of Caramel Sauce and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

Caramel Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup whole milk

Combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice in a medium heavy saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Let boil without stirring until the mixture becomes a deep amber color, 2 to 3 minutes, watching closely so it doesn't burn. Add the cream (be careful; it will bubble up), whisk to combine, and remove from the heat.

Add 2 tablespoons of the milk, then add up to 2 more tablespoons, until the desired consistency is reached. Let cool until just warm before serving. (The sauce will thicken as it cools.)

Very easy, very sweet, very dissappointing

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
This is an easy to make/quick prep recipe. The filling is simple but is missing the buttery custard like texture of a good... pecan pie. I agree with other reviews that semi sweet is the wrong chocolate to use. I set my oven timer for the minimum time recommended and the pie was over done. It's hard for me to believe that this is a creation of Emeril's. When I compare this pie to all of the other recipies of his I've cooked it doesn't measure up for depth of flavor, texture, or creativity (he definitly didn't kick this one up a notch). I'd expect to find this recipe on the back of a candy bar, not in Emeril's cookbook. I may try pairing pecan pie & chocolate again, but I've found several pecan pie recipies that I'd add chocolate to rather than ever cook this one again. In a word, dissappointing. Read more

TOO EASY TO BE SO DELICIOUS !!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I had never made a Pecan Pie before. Chose this recipe for the chocolate, but also the lesser amount of sugars. Prep could... not be easier. My only minor adjustments were bittersweet instead of semisweet chips, a dash of cinnamon and 1 full teaspoon of vanilla. Baked for 50 minutes in my oven gave me a richly brown, gorgeous-looking pie. The few left overs did not last long next day, but remained sort of crunchy on top, as if fresh from the oven. I love to bake pies especially, and this recipe will be a permanent addition to my favorite list. Thanks, Emeril!Read more

Not what I was looking for...

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
My fiance' liked this recipe but he also likes regular pecan pie as I do not. To me this was a combination of regular and... chocolate as you do not "mix" in the choclate. I then found the Hershey's recipe and LOVED it! Read more

    Use A Deep Dish!

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
Wish I had read the reviews first! since the recipe didn't specify deep dish, I ended up with part of the pie on my cookie... sheet,! In spite of that I would say this is the best chocolate pecan pie recipe I've ever tasted and would definitely serve this one again.I also agree that chocolate chips could be reduced and it would still be WONDERFUL!Read more

    Definitely Rich and Delicious!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I am an avid baker, especially of pies. My boyfriend absolutely loves pecan pie and ever since I made this one, it's the only... one he wants. It is definitely VERY sweet and rich, but we like that! I make my crust from scratch (Joy of Cooking Flaky Pastry or Deluxe Flaky Pastry Dough) and have not had any problems with it burning. I use a relatively deep pie plate, but the one I just made came out absolutely perfect, just a touch of golden brown. This is a homerun for me because it's so fast and easy, even someone who does not bake often should be able to whip it up very quickly with great results.Read more
