I've only done the salmon with the sauce of this meal, and just couldn't bring myself to use half a pound of butter. So I used a single stick and I am so glad I did. It wasn't overly buttery, but if I had used the other stick it would have been. Other than that modification (which is admittedly a large one I followed the recipe as written and it was pretty darn delicious. My mother constantly informs me of good salmon prices and requests it almost weekly even though she doesn't get it.

While this recipe took a lot longer than the "five minutes" stated on the recipe, I'd definitely make it again. Like other reviewers, in preparing the sauce I cut the butter quantity in half. I had no idea where to find "hard cider," so I had to use regular apple juice instead. In that case, I think I'd double the amount of apple used in the recipe to get more flavor. The potato cakes were more time consuming to prepare and were somewhat messy, but they offered good texture and interest to the dish. I added garlic and shallots to enhance the potato cakes. My guests cleaned their plates and I got kudos for "the best dinner ever!"

Absolutely delicious!!!! I only modified it in the following ways: I used plain apple cider instead of hard cider simply because I didn't have hard cider, and only used one stick of butter. I didn't have any caviar to garnish with, so that was omitted. Simple, tasty, and my wife who doesn't like salmon even enjoyed it.

This was easy to make, didn't take long, and was delicious! Nice different way to eat salmon. Kinda rich, so I made for my husband and myself for our Christmas dinner. Used only one stick butter in sauce after reading other reviews and it was great that way. Think two sticks might be too much. Really great dish!

I LOVE this RECIPE! It was fairly easy to make. The second time I made it I let the sauce cook too long and burned it, but since the sauce is so easy to make I just made it again. I really enjoyed this salmon... Its not very often that I come across a dish that makes me go "MMM" after every bite. and even more rare that it would be something I myself made. I woke up the next day wanting it again! This has become one of my favorites... I will make it again this Friday for a date night with my husband.

Caution: This recipe has A LOT of butter... hence why i only make it for special occasions.

I also wasn't so sure about this combination and almost didn't make the potato pancake. But I ended up making everything according to the recipe and couldn't believe the results. I don't cook that often but this not only turned out perfectly, but it was the most delicious salmon recipe I have ever tasted. Absolutely delicious. I will definitely be making this again soon!

Every once in a while I'm treated to a dish that makes me practically melt in delight with each bite from beginning to end. This was the first dish that I have ever prepared that made me do just that. It's been about a week since I made it and I can still taste it much as I still smell honeysuckle from 25 years ago.

I did have problems preparing the cakes but that was probably because the spuds weren't dry enough. I just spread them out on the griddle and smashed them as flat as I could and used 2 spatulas to flip them. I also went with the half butter portion as others have and I couldn't imagine it having tasted any better.
