I made this soup over the weekend of the "D.C. area Blizzard of '09" and it was delicious! It was my first recipe from foodnetwork, and the first time I'd tried butternut squash anything. Almost my whole family loved it (youngest kid didn't, and wife hates butternut. I used some smoked Italian sausage and it made for a nice smoky flavor. I also convection roasted the squash, which added to the flavor.

I have made both soups for friends and family several times now, and I still get rave reviews months later! The orange and white soups side by side are a visual treat and easily add the WOW factor to dinner. Both soups are savory and rich and a delight to the palate. To make both soups a little thicker and easier to present in one bowl, I reduced the chicken stock to 4 cups in each soup (rather than 6 cups of stock the recipe called for. These soups are a guaranteed hit, and one I pull out every time I want dinner to impress.

Made me look like a superstar at Tgiving. I made the soup 1.5 days ahead to let the flavors settle in and was a hit!

We don't usually have soup on Thanksgiving but I always like to introduce something new so this was it. The family loved it. I introduced them to parsnips and soup as a course to our traditional dinner. Even the kids loved it. Some loved "the white" while others liked "the orange" but whatever they were eating vegetables and liking them. I didn't change a thing to the recipes. They were so easy. Still have a question regarding why you would use onions, leeks, and shallots since they are all from the onion family but who am I to ask. This is a great recipe.

Best butternut squash soup recipe ever!
Four years ago I made this for a potluck Thanksgiving gathering and have been asked to make it every year since then.
Like many others I followed the recipe but tripled everything.

This soup was AWFUL and I prepared it exactly as written. The onions and
sausage flavors were overpowering the sweetness of the roasted butternut
squash. Don't waste your time and money on this recipe!

I followed the recipe exactly (even though I doubled it and it is absolutely fantastic! I would serve it to anyone proudly. It is so Yummy! Have baked B'nut squash alone and wasn't that impressed but this dish brings out the best of all flavors.
