The flavor of these cookies is very good, but I gave them 4 stars because of some problems with the directions. First, the recipe says it makes only 20 cookies, so I made a double batch, but in truth, one batch will make at least 4 dozen, so I wound up with over a hundred of these! Also, these cookies spread quite a bit when they bake, so if you make the balls 1-1/2 inches, the cookies will be huge. Finally, I could not get them to be soft in the middle, even when I reduced both the heat and the cooking time. All that said, this is a very tasty, albeit crunchy cookie.

I want to start off by saying, before trying this recipe, I'd never even tasted a Snickerdoodle. I am not a fan of sweets, but will occassionally nibble on a cookie or other sweet. Hearing the name Snickerdoodles, I always thought of overly sweet chewy cookies. When I tried this recipe I added 1 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring. These cookies were so DELICIOUS! I ate 5 back to back! I ended up having to make 4 more batches after allowing friends and family to taste, they were all hooked. My husband usually likes my cookies, but never comments, when he tasted these his eyes lit up and he said they were good and tasted better than any he'd had. Also my batch made almost 60 cookies, Emeril must have had gigantic cookies.

Very easy and DELICIOUS!!! I keep getting requests from my family to make them and then they disappear from the cooling racks! (must be something wrong with those racks! The only thing I changed, I use 3 whole cups of flour. There won't be a Holiday from now on without these cookies. Thanks Emeril!

It was okay. I just didn't like the taste the shortening gave to the cookie. Like, meggera, I think I'm going to substitute the shortening for butter.
