I loved this recipe. I modified it per others.....along with the onion and garlic, sauteed 2 carrots and 2 celery stalks, all food-processed fine. I also added 1/3 c small-diced smoked ham. I used an immersion blender to partially puree it. I also added some hot sauce when serving it! I did not even add the milk, as I don't use milk and didn't want to chance almond milk.

I really wanted to give this recipe five stars. Don't get me wrong, it came out well; What kept it from perfection was the cooking time. I simmered for 45 minutes per the recipe, but the peas were still a little hard. Even after simmering for another 35 minutes, they were soft but could have been softer. The soup came out a little grainy but still delicious. I did make some changes: Next time I'll omit the salt or use low sodium broth instead; I did add celery, carrots and a smoked trukey drumstick. It all blended well. I tasted the soup with and without the milk and could go either way. This is a simple, straight forward recipe that I'll be making again.

Ever since the kids went off to school the house has been a little more than quiet. Then last week, Buster died. Nothing brings back my spirits like some split pea soup. The only problem with this recipe is the lack of vinegar. Add 1/2 cup to the mix for a zesty fall flavor! you might have to keep the neighbors at bay while the soup cooks! Thanks Emeril! J. Spummell

This soup is simple, delicious, and easy. I needed a recipe for split pea w/o carrots and celery (out of them. I gave the nod to this one and am so happy I did. Good bye my own and Ina's Parker's recipes; I really like the soup without the carrots/celery and with a little zip. I followed the recipe almost exactly--skipped the milk, and I did simmer the soup with a ham bone left over from Easter dinner--the reason for making pea soup. Absolutely terrific. It is thinner than my usual recipe which I puree; no need to puree this one. Will try simmering ham hocks next time which we love.

great soup! i did not puree it until smooth, but left some chunks out of personal preference: Also, used vegetable broth and no milk to make it vegan: so delicious and super easy to whip up!

This recipe was really easy and really good!! It was the first time I'd ever made soup with the dried peas, and it was soo easy! I added celery and carrots to have more veg and I also didn't puree it....I like the chunkier texture! Very good! Will definately make it again!!!
