With some modifications (porcini mushrooms, my own seasoning etc this recipe won me 3 awards in a local pie baking contest! I just entered for fun. Also keeps my English fiance and Pie-Devotee truly happy (and 5 pounds overweight!

This is a fantastic recipe with a delicious rich flavour. I made it today and the family loved. I must admit that I used store bought pastry though.
The only change I made was to add less liquid - reduced to about three quarters as the recipe made lots of gravy.

I liked this a lot. The meat becomes really tender after being cooked over such a long time. The sirloin becomes flaky. I liked that a lot.

Absolutely wonderful flavors. With the little leftovers I had because there is only two of us in the house, I reheated it and put it over brown rice. This is a keeper.

This is a fantastic recipe--the result is sure to please anyone who appreciates a meat and potatoes kind of meal. The flavors are rich and complex. I made this with leftover steak--admittedly it was rare steak in its first life. Also, the pastry dough seemed really hard, but it rolled out and baked up just fine.

This dish was so wonderful and filling. My husband, who is English, absolutely devoured it. Next time, I may bake the pastry topping separately and add a square of it on top of each bowl of of the steak and mushroom stew.

I've made this recipe a few times now and it always gets rave reviews...especially after the Guiness goes in and it really starts to fill the house while it's simmering. I spice mine up with a couple of Jalapeno peppers....fantastic!
