Bam! Excellent! I've made Blackeyed peas with ham before, but not this recipe. What made the yummy difference was sautéing the onion and ham first. I just made a pot and have my lunch for my husband, son and I for a couple of days. Try not to use canned. So easy and cheaper to buy the dry Blackeyed peas and they will soak in all the flavor.

Excellent! Definitely a keeper. I used canned black eyed peas (3 cans, rinsed and drained well, (i couldn't find dried in store - last minute shopping i guess and you wouldn't know the difference. Also added a can of italian diced tomatoes and doubled the amount of ham. Totally delicious.

Delish! Must use the country ham for best flavor. I didn't change a thing and even my 5 year old ate it. Did not add any salt or pepper, it didn't need it.

Pretty good. It is worth making for New Years but I can't say I would keep it in my regular recipe box. Good flavor but not a head turner. I gave it four stars because it is pretty hard to find a good black-eyed peas soup recipe. The ham is a great addition to the soup.

I made these for our New Years dinner and they were fantastic. Everyone loved them - from the youngest of our family at age 4 to the oldest at age 88. My husband even praised the taste and he doesn't drop compliments lightly.

Delicious!!!! I only had access to one grocery store and it was by foot, they were out of regular beans so I had to buy cans, and they had no country ham so I used the other half of the bacon that I used for my NYE cabbage. STILL DELICIOUS, even with me F#$*&ing up the recipe!

After searching the net for a recipe that looked interesting and tasty for my first-time working with black eyed peas, I chose this one over many others. Though I'm certain it would have been delicious as written, my penchant for improvisation led me to tweak it somewhat as I used diced salt belly pork instead of country ham, added about two cups of potatoes, two diced green bell peppers, and also two 14.5 oz cans of fire-roasted diced tomatoes.

Once I sauteed the vegetables and meat, I added the liquid, brought it to a boil and transferred everything to a crockpot where I then cooked it on high for about 2 1/2 hours. The result was fantastic and very well-received.

Made these for New Years and for the first time my husband got a second helping. I also used a ham hock, browned slightly before adding the onion. I added some Louisiana hot sauce for a little spice and found they were delicious. Will definately make again and again!
