Everyone loved the strawberry finish to my Easter meal. However, I have a question about the store bought angel food cake that I used.Once I sliced the top, the cake fell! It was difficult to hollow out the tunnel. I carefully followed the recipe and let it set over night. In the morning, I frosted the cake with whipped cream and decorated it with strawberries sprinkled with powdered sugar and refrigerated it till dessert. Everyone said it was a cross between strawberry shortcake and a a trifle. It was a light and delightful dessert! Would a homemade cake worked better? How about using a pound cake? Any suggestions?

I made this for my son's 10th birthday. It received rave reviews from all children and adults and I have been asked for the recipe countless times. I used the almond extract and it was wonderful.

I toasted some slivered almonds and sprinkled them on top of the frosted cake to compliment the almond flavoring and add some texture. Garnish the outside edges with fresh strawberries and stack some in the center and it is sure to impress. Take a slice and it is sure to delight!

This cake is delicious! I've made it for friends and co-workers and it always gets rave reviews. I have added almond extract to Cool whip instead of whipping cream for the frosting to reduce calories and save time, and it still tastes great!

I am not a cook! I love angel food cake so when I saw this twist on it, I was excited to try it. It did not disappoint! We loved it! The kids loved the filling plain and with the cake. A real hit - not a single crumb left.
