my family has not stopped raving about this ham; leftovers last night were awesome; funny story, i had left the grocery list of ingredients needed; i was at work, my son told me that mom had looked at the ingredients and said "this is bullcrap"; but she got them anyway; when i got home she told me how much she had spent and that it better be good; I was nervous doing something i had not tried before; pressure was on; i knew i would not hear the end of it if it didn't wow them; rest is history; they absolutely loved it; i did do the substitutes like others mentioned with cinnamon stick and honey/light corn syrup; the swizzle stick does give me an idea for my new puppy's name though; Parker's Sugar Swizzle Stick (sugar for short - blonde golden retriever.

This is my favorite ham recipe. Here in Dallas, TX, I can find all of the ingredients easily except the sugarcane swizzle sticks. In the past, I even found the swizzle sticks as well in the Latin section at my local Kroger. The brand was Frieda's. However, this recipe is great even without the swizzle sticks. I don't usually do the fruit with the recipe, and therefore, only need about half of the syrups and molasses as what the recipe calls for.

BEST. HAM. RECIPE. EVER. I often make a second one after the first because it's so simple and delicious, and semi-addictive. It's got that sweet-hot thing going on and I haven't found a single person who hasn't complimented me extensively for the results. Now, I don't get totally crazy trying to find some of the more unusual ingredients in here, either. I can never find sugarcane sticks, for example, so I use cinnamon sticks and cloves. Mnnnn!

If you can't find the 100% Pure Cane Syrup, subsititute it with 1/2c. light corn syrup and 1/2c. honey.
    This ham is DELICIOUS!!!

I used this recipe for Christmas dinner at our Church in 2006. Everyone loved it. I told them where to find the recipe and 6 different people have used it when making ham for church gatherings, what a crowd pleaser. (And it is hard to impress the food lovers at a Baptist church with something new. I found the raw sugarcane in the latino section of our grocery store. WTG Emeril!!!!!

I did not have sugar cane, but did have pure cane sugar. I found everything else. This has become the new tradition in the family. Incredible!

I had a little trouble getting the bits of sugarcane into the ham easily and the sugarcane was problematic to cut, but it looked like a professional had prepared the ham! The taste was simply incredible and my entire family loved it. Though next time I will have to find either precut sugarcane or get my Dremel tool out.

I made this recipe last Thanksgiving using a run-of-the-mill supermarket spiral cut ham and it was a big hit. This year, I purchased a much more expensive ham from my local pork butcher. Since I figured the ham itself would make my ham really better than before. I was the most disapointed, but my dinner guests and family were even more disapointed. The big question was "why didn't you make what you made last year, that was the best" - So, I learned my lesson - Sugar Cane can be purchased at most Latino markets as well as the pure sugar syrup. You can also substitute simple syrup for the sugar cane syrup, it works just as well since this is incrediably sweet to start with.

    Great Recipe Ermeil!!

I can't find the sugar cane swizzle sticks or the 100% Pure Cane syrup for this recipe. I live in Knoxville, TN, which I thought was far enough out of the hills to be able to locate ingredients for a ham recipe categorized as "Easy." I am using raw granulated sugar cane to replace the swizzle sticks, but I don't know what to use to replace the 100% Pure Cane syrup (the closest thing I've found is 35% Cane Syrup by Roddenberry's.
