I read past reviews and added extra cocoa (doubled to 4 tsp, otherwise, followed recipe. It was good but it was very crumby. Maybe I over baked? At 20 min the toothpick wasnt clean. Baked 3 more min and it was clean.

Per other folks' recommendations I added more cocoa powder (made it closer to 3 tbsp than 2 tsp and it was fantastic! Would heartily recommend this. Family said this one is a keeper.

This cake was delicious! It was my first time making a red velvet cake. I made it for a Super Bowl party; it was gone before the night was over. The icing was very good. My daughter and I ate it off the spatula. The color was a bright pretty red.

The best! I get this cake requested over and over again.
I used 1 red coloring container. I watch it and take it out right when the toothpick comes out clean. It is still soft.
Great for cake pops too, with cream cheese frosting! :

Delicious! It was moist and red and amazing. When I went to ice it, crumbs got into the white icing. I recommend putting multiple layers of icing before you start decorating (decorating helps cover it up. I defenately recommend you stick to the recipe. When you take it out of the oven it will be really red. Don't worry. When it cooled it turned a darker, richer, red.

I used this recipe this past Thanksgiving not really knowing what to expect. I read other reviews that said to add more butter and cocoa but I decided to just follow the recipe as stated ( I should have listened to the reviews, although I did add more cocoa powder! Although the consistancy of the cake came out quite nice, the cake was flavorless and dry. The icing however, was amazing!

I've been using this recipe for a few years, and it's a nearly perfect red velvet cake. Comes out moist and fluffy every time. The only change i make is to use 2 tbsp. cocoa instead of 2 teaspoons. Seriously, people actually beg for red velvet cupcakes since I've been using this recipe.

I've been using this recipe since 2006. So many family members ask for the recipe. For the first time I'm going to use it for my nephews Toy Story 2nd birthday party and make cupcakes. Instead of red I'm making some blue ones and some green ones to go with the theme. I love the fact I have the option of doing this without changing the flavor at all.

I have made red velvet cake before but have never been satisfied with the recipes, but this one is fabulous. This one was delicious! I made it for my sister's birthday upon request and had all my party guests asking for my recipe, so of who were trained chefs. I could not stop eating this cake when I was assembling it. I highly recommend it!
