Without much thought, I made this recipe having read the title and the impression of hawaiian appetizer. Outcome of my quick decision...terrific flavors. I truly felt I was back on the islands. The recipe is easy and not expensive...per choice of meats. Annie , Fremont , CA

This was fairly easy and very delicious. I made a big batch of Kalua pork in my crock pot this week, and used that to make the spring rolls. I also sub green cabbage for the napa cabbage and added shredded carotts. I also added extra garlic, ginger, and curry powder. The sauce was very good. I did leave out the oil though, it seemed like an odd ingredient for this type of sauce.

Overall very tasty! This would be an excellent and impressive appetizer for a party.

I'm rating this recipe for the sauce only- that's the only part I've made. The sauce is EXCELLENT! I made it once for a party and everyone couldn't get enough of it. I left it at the hostess's house and she said she was trying to find things around her house to dip in it- like carrots, pita, chips! I always get requests to make that sauce. It's so easy to make, the ingredients are in the regular grocery store (some in the Asian foods section, of course, and it's fast and lasts for days. It's the perfect mix of sweet & spicy. LOVE IT.

I live in Hawaii so Kalua pork is readily available to me. I needed something cool to make and this was a great way to use it. I used eggroll wrappers (couldn't find springroll and also kicked it up a notch by adding a handful of bean sprouts with shredded carrot. Very tasty and not as hard as it sounds.

The end result of this recipe wasn't quite as good as we expected, plus I made a HUGE mess chopping, dicing, shredding, etc. Bowls, pans and utensils equalled an entire dishwasher load.

I also took a shortcut and used stir-fried pork instead of the barbecued ribs, whoch saved me money and quite a few hours. (Plus finding banana leaves in Indiana is pretty hard.

Everyone should make this recipe once. That way, when you order Chinese egg rolls from a restaurant, you will realize what a bargain they are! HA!
