I made this for a Christmas potluck dinner. It was amazing. I was hoping that I would have left overs for the next day, but nothing. I have to say this dish is a hit... If you want to impress, this will be the one to make. : )

I have been making this for a few months and it just never gets old... My husband is just so excited everytime I make it!!! I started taking it to b'day partys and it is ALWAYS a hit and never any wasted left overs! Its great the next day for lunch and my 1 year old can never get enough! Sometimes to save time I will bake the first half the day before and refrigerate until 40 minutes before serving the next da.. pop it in the oven and bam... It dosn't come out funky at alllll. Everyone actually says its better!!! TRY IT you will not be disapointed

I made this for Christmas lunch.. I made it the day before and baked it on Christmas morning. My whole family loved it! I really think it serves more people than it says... it is a lot of food and well worth the effort!

    A New Family Fav

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Made this for Christmas dinner and was a huge hit, everyone loved it and insists that becomes a staple at future family gatherings. I followed the recipe exactly but was a little concerned that the crispy bacon would be too crunchy...it wasn't. Made the night before, refridgerated and took out about an hour before cooking.

    A hit at Christmas

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this for the first time yesterday at Christmas. It was a hit! The for the most part I made the recipe as indicated except instead of the black pepper and salt amounts I put the same amount the recipe called for of both with something called "House Seasonings" which I had to make for the green bean casserole I also made-- it was 1 cup salt, 1/4 cup garlic powder and 1/4 cup black/white pepper mixed together (and that was only because I ran out of black pepper and still had white pepper). As you can see the recipe made way more than I would need for the green bean casserole and I thought it might work with this casserole as well -- and it did. So well in fact that my mother wants it for her birthday dinner now!

I used half baked potatoes and half left over mashed potatoes that I froze from Thanksgiving...I will say that the left over mashed potatoes were a little watery which is my fault but despite that this recipe was incredible!!! I used a little more white cheddar and more mild cheddar because we love our cheese! I wouldn't change a thing and everyone loved them...even my one year old who has pneumonia and I can't get her to eat anything ate these!! They are the best potatoes!! Very good for a special occasion or holiday!

We saw this recipe on GMA December '07 and made it as a side dish for Christmas dinner. This year we were asked to make it again! Very Good!

This dish is a one pan meal. Rich and very filling. Great to do ahead of time. Always a hit with my carb and fat loving family. Be warned, you will be full.

Instead of making this a casserole, I kept the skins and filled them. My company asked for the recipe so it went over very well.

    Not that great

You can taste the guilt as you eat this casserole. Too much fat and carbs for one dish. Sometimes it is fine to eat this badly but the taste just isn't worth it.

This was a BIG HIT for Thanksgiving and well worth the prep time. My wife and and I got it together the night before and left in the fridge over night. Once the turkey was done the next day, we popped it in the oven. Absolutely delicious! Thanks for a great recipe!!!

    I have a question

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I just made these because of the great reviews, however I just made half the recipe. Can someone tell me how many potatoes they used? It says 7 lbs total, which is more than 10 potatoes, depending on size. I used 3 lbs for a half recipe and it still looks like it's going to be too much. I thiink 3 1/2 lbs of potatoes would definitely be too much. (I haven't baked it yet.) I want to make an entire recipe for Thanksgiving and I don't want the mixture too dry. I'm tempted to just make the recipe as listed but with only 5 lbs of potatoes.

This was so good and easy. I will make this over and over. I have been raving about it for days. I even kept the skins, put some cheddar and bacon on them and cooked next to the dish. Family filled some up with the casserole. Wonderful!!!

    Perfect Thanksgiving Dish

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Just made this for a pre-thanksgiving meal. I halved everything and used an 8x8 casserole dish and cut the cook time to ~ 30 min. It came out perfect! This dish gets 5 stars easily; you will not taste many casserole's this good IF ANY.

    Great dish

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this with a few modifications, left out the bacon (vegetarian) and onions b/c don't like them -- added garlic instead. Cleaned potatoes well and boiled them so could use skins w/o wasting them. Anyway put boiled potatoes in mixer to mash and added ingredients as instructed (using LF sour cream as another user suggested), then scooped it all into pan w/ the cheese topping, put it in fridge and baked the next morning - very yummy dish, I was testdriving it before thanksgiving and now have a great dish to carry to the family gathering. I might go just a tad lighter on pepper next time, but overall a solid dish that does well in allowing for seasoning substitutions.
