Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cups white sugar
  • 3/4 brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon hot water
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a cookie sheet.

First, add the butter and sugars into a mixing bowl and cream with mixer. Add the eggs and mix well. With a large spoon mix in the flour, salt, cinnamon, baking soda, and the oatmeal, mix well.

Add the water, raisins, and vanilla. Flour a workspace and with a rolling pin or your hands make a "snake" with the dough and cut it into several pieces or in a pretzel shape. Place on the prepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 to 15 minutes (depending on how thick you snakes are). Let them sit and cool on the stove.

Serve on a plate and a glass of milk; garnish with something that you can BAM! with.

    Excellent w/ some additions

I'm always searching for the best oatmeal raisin cookie recipe and this one delivered with just a few additions. One of my... pet peeves is that most oatmeal raisin cookie recipes don't specify enough cinnamon. I increased the cinnamon to 2 tsps, which added nice flavor (it definitely wasn't too much) and I also added 1 cup of finely chopped walnuts. I used the food processor so the nuts were very small and they blended in nicely. The cookies were wonderful and enjoyed by all taste testers. I'll keep this recipe as my #1 fav for now. Read more

    AWESOME!!!

This was my first attempt at Oatmeal Raisin cookies and they are the best I have ever had. I read some other recipes and the... amount of flour varied so I added two "loose" cups of flour.. meaning.. I didn't pack it into the cup so it was a little less than 2 full cups. The only thing I would change is adding at least a 1/2 cup more of raisins. I also used a scooper to make things easier. Other than that.. these were great!!!!Read more

    Just the best!

I made these cookies back before Christmas (2009) and really like them. I have made them about three times since then and... even my grandkids raved about them! I don't "twist" the dough...I just bake them as a regular cookie and they come out great every time. I'm not sure why anyone would have problems baking these...the recipe is simple and you can't mess them up! In fact...I am getting ready to make a batch now...happy eating!Read more
