Was as much fun to make as it was to eat. this was really creative and the presentation was amazing! My wife and I loved them. I tried it out because I have vegitarian company coming over and I think they are going to love them as well!

The veggie chili recipe alone is great. Everyone I've cooked it for loves it.

I suggest that you don't make the masa cakes as described in the recipe. In the recipe it tells you to stuff the masa cakes with chili almost like a big ravioli. The first time I made this recipe I did that and it is difficult to put together and does not cook all the way through.

Instead, simply make the masa cakes and cook them all separately like palm-sized pancakes. Then serve them stacked with layers of chili between them. Much easier and gives them a good crunch.

Also, my masa needed much more water then the recipe stated.

    This one's a keeper!

First, thanks to Emeril for providing a creative vegetarian recipe in the first place. My husband and son loved this one.

This chili is amazing! Although it takes quite a bit of time to make the chili and the masa cakes, it is well worth the effort. A wonderful meal to warm you up on a cold day.

I thought this chili was excellent and so did my vegetarian daughter. Since she hates mushrooms, I reduced the amount of mushrooms and increased the zuchini. When she had the meal, she didn't even know there were mushrooms in it (even though I used 10 ounces. The Masa cakes around the chili were good, and actually make great cold snacks directly from the refrigerator. But my family prefered the chili with homemade totillas (with canned hominy in the masa mix.

Keep bringing us great vegetarian dishes like this Emeril!

Did not make the masa cakes, had little time. But I made the chili, and the whole family was ecstatic. I served it with corn tortillas instead. If you just make the chili on weeknights it is a great low fat healthy and filling meal! We all loved it!

It felt like a complete meal--very healthy. It just took a little while to get all the ingredients together and chopped.

This recipe was good but the cakes were difficult to make because the dough did not hold together very well. Also be sure to make the cakes very thin or they will not cook all the way through and the chili will have doughy crumbles in it and will be lukewarm.

I love the idea but I'm not experienced enough to fix the dough.
