I make this pie all year long...in the winter when it is hard to find "real green tomatoes" I use tomatillos and it tastes just as good!!!! I always have lots of green tomatoes during the summer and this is a perfect recipe to use them up....I recommend trying this recipe it is absolutely my favorite apple pie recipe!!!

I used white raisins, only 1 cup of sugar, and a pinch of cloves and nutmeg. This amount of sugar proved plenty sweet as I also put on a crumb topping, a la Dutch apple pie. Interesting flavor - the tomatoes impart a tang reminiscent of mincemeat pie. I made this for a 4th of July cookout but it might be better suited for the winter holidays.

If making it again, I might add walnuts to the filling to really round out the mincemeat theme.

This came out surprisingly well! I had green tomatoes in my CSA farm share that I didn't know what to do with. This was the perfect way to use them up! I went without the raisins and used fresh grated ginger instead of powdered. I also only used a cup of sugar and it was plenty sweet. A+
