After reading the reviews, I wasn't sure I wanted to try this. I'm really glad I did! If you use Rotel instead of the regular tomato sauce, use 8 tortillas instead of 6, and measure the ingredients by ounces instead of cans (the ounces in the recipe didn't match the ounces on the cans, this is really delicious.

I had great hope that this recipe would be fun and creative. However, it had the consistency of "Glop". There was nothing to hold it together. The casserole size was not stated, so I used a regular deep casserole dish. We had to serve it with a large spoon and it ran all over the dinner plates/bowls. The additional disappointment of too much tomato flavoring and little or no seasoning, made the whole project a failure. Why weren't the details expanded and the outcome more predictable?

Thought I'd give this a try, even though I've had a similar recipe of my mother's for 20 years. I was disappointed in Paula's version.
Sorry, but I think I'll stick with my old tried and true recipe.

Honestly, I haven't tried this recipe yet, but I love Paula so much, that I have to bring up the star rating on this for her :

I think if each individual person tweeked this recipe to their liking, they could get a 5 star recipe! Most dishes have to be tweeked to each person's taste anyway.

ok normally i love paula deen's recipes, but this one was just average. i had one issue with this recipe in that it did not give a casserole dish size, so i used a 9x13. as i was constructing this i realized part way through that the amount of tortillas called for would not cut it. so i added more tortillas and ended up making a lasagna type dish. i don't know if that was the intention (not having seen this aired. and i also kicked up the seasonings to the ground beef, more than what the recipe called for, which somehow saved it. because it was so easy, i thought it had potential. oh well lesson learned.

Don't get me wrong, the enchilada pie tastes okay, but nothing more. Sometimes when you eat a certain dish, you remember the taste and say to yourself, "Well I'm going to have to make this one again!"

But not the enchilada pie. First of all, the taste is boring. Over powering tomato taste and no spiciness. It should at least have some kind of zip.

The other thing I have beef with this recipe is the fact that its a mess. The two layers of tortilla does nothing to hold the pie together. I believe making more layers like a lasagna would be better fit.

My first review, might be a little harsh. On a side note.... I was actually looking for a recipe that Paula Dean made on one of her shows. This recipe was similar, but not the same. The one I was looking for had a creamy whitish sauce with chicken instead of tomato sauce and beef.
