Absolutely fabulous!!! I made this as a salad since we could not find our skewers. Added strawberries as another reviewer suggested - otherwise followed the recipe as is and it was just wonderful. Such a great blend of flavors! I mixed the fruit and basil in an airtight bowl and poured the balsamic syrup and olive oil and salt on top - covered & refrigerated till needed. Delicious that night, and even better the next day!

This was very good. I added a twist, skewer next to the basil - fresh mozzella cheese chunks. Delish!

I don't like giving poor reviews, but this recipe just didn't work for me or my guests. The flavors just did not come together like I was hoping they would. I followed the recipe exactly and the presentation and the taste did not do it for us.

I made these for a baby shower at my office, full of non foodies.. people started off taking only one skewer just to be polite, thinking "watermelon and tomato? I don't think so." Once they tasted it literally everyone got up for seconds! The flavor combination is so fresh and perfect for the summer!

Great appetizer for any party. I tried this recipe for an afternoon with the girls and it was a great hit. Easy to prepare, even cut up the watermelon the night before and made the balsamic dressing early that morning. This way all the ingredients were ready for assembling and plating. Loved the recipe, great flavors and they all come together nicely. Can't wait to make them again for my daughter's birthday party. Enjoy!

I made this for a dinner party, and everyone enjoyed it... There were none left. I made the sauce a few days ahead of time and it does thicken. I used a fig flavored balsamic vinegar and that added a very interesting taste. I also used strawberries instead of watermelon... I may use strawberries from now on because it was GOOD!

Made this for an appt. to bring to an outdoor concert Chicago. Packed the dressing separate and drizzled when ready to serve. What a treat! Such a light, sweet, simple recipe. I had leftover pieces of watermelon that didnt make the skewer presentation cut, that I mixed with all these ingredients to make a side salad. PearlRiver.com has great skewers to make this with!

I made this simple yet delicious appetizer for our annual block party. I hadn't made it before so I was a little nervous. There was no need as they were all eaten up!! I saw my 8 year old at one point eating one which was shocking since he "hates" tomatoes:
I was happy to have read the reviews which had alerted me to making the syrup in time to allow it to thicken. Great advice! I also will try it as a salad as other reviewers had suggested.
Has anyone tried it with cantaloupe as is suggested in the cookbook if good watermelon is unavailable?

Made the skewers for a BBQ and they went fast. They were fresh, delicious and easy to make. Plus, they can be prepped ahead of time. The longer the sauce sits the more it thickens. Pour the sauce on right before serving because it does run through the watermelon after a while.
