My kids and I just made the 4-step chicken! Delicious! The kids had a blast dredging the chicken and helping me. I love your ideas about how to include your children in the kitchen - please keep it up. Looking forward to your show!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so excited when Melissa won. Through the whole season of Food Network Star I couldn't wait to see Melissa's show. She is exactly what Food Network needs, someone with practical cooking ideas. I was getting a little nervous while watching the judges deliberate, and it sounded like they were leaning towards Jeffrey. We really don't need another show based on hard to find ingredients. I love it when I can watch a show in the afternoon and get ideas for dinner that night. I know that is what I will get with Melissa's show. I can't wait to make this chicken dish tonight.

Laura. You have issues. Lighten up. Did you actually read the reviews. You wrote ?If you don?t make the recipe don?t tell us how good it it was?. Not a single person said how good it was. My advice to you is don?t watch FN, you should try watching the Golf Channel or something. Jeffery was great, but let?s face it all he did was put some of that paste on a steak then make a sandwich out of it. Congratulations Melissa, I?m looking forward to watching your show.

Healthy, quick, delicious meals are a must in my house so Melissa's show will be just what I need. Would like to see a list of pantry basics from her. I know the food will taste as good as it looks. Jeffrey did a great job too and I would like to see him with a show as well.

My husband and I both lost our corporate jobs this year and our new downsized budget mandates that we stop dining out at every meal. Our transition to home-cooking has, unfortunately, been less than stellar, and we've turned to low-cost "heat and serve" items. We're sick of not eating well. Melissa's pilot episode has motivated me to try cooking a few basic dishes from scratch. Her "survival strategies" are just what we need at this point in our lives. I've already downloaded her potato and chicken recipes and will cook them this week. Thank you so much for choosing her and many congratulations to you Melissa!

Having said that, I would also LOVE to see Jeffrey get his own show. I loved being introduced to unique ingredients that we might not know about otherwise.

My husband and I both really enjoyed this year's competition! We have turned to Food Network and HGTV for no-stress shows during these tough times!

I plan on making this tonight with tilapia, because that's what I've got at home. I love this idea because I almost never follow a recipe to the letter, and here's one that is so flexible! It does seem like there's a lot of beginner/quick/easy programs on right now, but I think this is a reflection of the times. A lot of people are cutting corners by cooking at home and using less prepackaged food, and need the how-to's. Back when we were all rich, in 1998 or so, the 80-hour-a-week mom with nothing to serve would just take her family out. What is not as popular right now is exotic ingredients, which are hard to find and more expensive. The only way that Jeffrey's show would have worked is if the Food Network had made his feature ingredient available for purchase on their web page. I have no clue where I'd buy that African sauce, and without it Jeffrey is just a guy making a steak sandwich. Plus, although Melissa's show demo was a quick n easy kind of thing, we saw her make the world class pastry. She's got a range, and probably could do more than home cooking.

You're right, Laura. There is a plethora of shows on right now that are showing off simple and quick dishes. I think Melissa did a good job, but for people who have been cooking for many years and already have the basics down, a show like the one Jeffery would have done brought some excitement to the table for those who like cooking with unique ingredients.
I rated this with 4 stars not because I made this particular 4-step chicken, but because over the years I have made this sort of dish many, many times. It's a good stand by, but nothing all that exciting.
I wish both Melissa and Jeffery well, they each did a nice job.
