Oh wow! This was the best apple pie EVER. I'll never make another kind of apple pie. This is "the one"!

I cannot imagine any apple pie topping this one! I have made this probably 20 times now and my friends and family RAVE over it. Besides for dessert, It's what I give as a special thank-you gift, for gift exchanges (along with a nice pie dish and server, and I make it for my boss and husband's boss every Christmas.
The ONLY adjustments I make are to the toffee topping. I usually make almost twice the amount of flour/sugar/butter mixture and three times the toffee and I prefer my toffee without chocolate for a more sophisticated taste. Also, it's totally possible to get the crust right, but it's tough. Sometimes I use a different pie recipe. My mother-in-law would tell you to use real lard to get it to be the perfect texture, and her pie crusts are to die for.
This pie is the reason I finally registered to write reviews.

How do you get from the dough: "form a soft dough" for the pie crust to the filling: "turn the filling into the pie crust" - do you roll out and bake the crust first?

I have been searching for the perfect apple pie recipe for years, trying, on average, about 3-4 different recipes a year and I have FINALLY found THE ONE! This was the best apple pie I have ever had. I took the recommendations of previous users and did not top the pie with the second pie crust; I also stripped the chocolate from the candy and used a slightly sweeter apple than the Granny Smith (I used Jonagold--next time I might try it with Golden Delicious. But, this was by and far the best apple pie I have ever eaten. Definitely worth the time and effort!

Best apple pie ever. I used the HEATH BITS 'O BRICKLE Toffee Bits which does not contain chocolate.

Loved the sneaky way of adding the ingredients so that caramel is made during baking- very neat and tasty.

I needed to make an apple pie for a dinner I was attending and this recipe looked great, but I was too intimidated to make the crust. Instead, I substituted the cobbler crust from Tyler Florence's Bourbon Peach cobbler. The result was amazing. Everything sort of melted together and it turned out to be one of the best desserts I've ever made.

I stumbled upon this recipe a few years ago and thought it sounded good, so I decided to make it. My husband is a huge apple pie fan and he thought it was the best apple pie he had ever had. From then on, I use this recipe. I made it again last night and I was reminded of just how great it really is!!!! :
