No one that I have served this pie to had anything but RAVE to say about this pie.. It is BY FAR the BEST and have I never had an applie pie that had just the right amount of apples and the caramel is just a great taste It is not hard but you should get all your ingredients together on your counter so you just have to grab when you are ready. Excellent!

This pie gets five stars for the taste, it is so awesome. It was gone in seconds at a house party. For me personally, I agree with another reviewer, it was too sweet. I will cut down on the use of sugar, and omitt the toffee next time--just too sweet for me personally. The pie is so good though, I served mine a la mode with french vanilla ice cream-and that did even out the sweetness a bit. It overall was fabulous, and if you like really sweet deserts this is for you!

This was my first time making a pie and I decided to have a go at it as Christmas dessert. Well, I am please to say that it came out wonderfully. My family raved about it. This is an awesome recipe.

I loved this pie! And my husband loved this pie...said it was his favorite pie he had ever tasted.
Instead of heavy cream and butter....I put 1 tbls of butter in the sauce pan and mixed in 4 tablespoons of light Marzetti's Caramel Dip and 1/8 cup of 1% milk. and sauteed that for 8 minutes instead.
IT was AMAZING. And....Heath is now selling just Toffee bits (without the chocolate on them in the baking isle at Safeway. They are the perfect addition to the Crumble topping. I also omitted the top crust...you don't need it. The pie is fabulous without it!
    Happy Baking!

I felt compelled to review this recipe since I just finished making it. It is NOT easy! I agree with the other reviewers that this crust is hard to work with. I had to stop several times when rolling to chill again since it kept breaking apart. I can only hope that it is as delicious on Thanksgiving as all the work that went into it. Make sure you give yourself alot of time to prepare. I frozen mine until ready to bake.

I have never baked a pie before and I thought I'd try my hand at baking one for a pot luck party my friend was hosting. I found this recipe and thought I'd give it a shot. The recipe itself is not easy, especially, when it comes to making the crust I learned the hard way that you constantly have to keep the dough moving and make sure you work quickly! Otherwise, the dough will stick to your board and pin as it gets warmer. The filling was very easy to make and was sooooo tasty. I omitted the streusal topping with the toffee since that sounded a bit weird to me in an apple pie, and the result was a pie that was very classicly good. Even though I had a lot of trouble with the crust, it came out very well in the end, and was very flaky (people were surprised that my first pie ever was as flakey as it was. The pie was gone in a heartbeat and I was really wishing I had some more because I totally had a hankering for it the next morning. Definitely worth trying this recipe out.

I started to make this a few years ago for Thanksgiving. It is now one of our family favorites. I do not put the second crust on top, I end it with the crumble topping. I think that makes it more unique and even better - well at least it has less calories this way! Try it today.
