    Wow the best apple pie I have ever had. I used a store bought pie crust and it didn't matter one bit. Yum!

    This pie went faster than the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving! I used my own crust and ended up skipping the upper crust altogether. The toffee bits add such a punch to the struesel topping. It was marvelous!

    I made this as my first solo pie and it turned out gorgeous! My husband thought it was the best and I promptly lost the recipe - I have searched and searched and finally found it again - I can't wait to make it a part of my Christmas dinner.

    The only reason this recipe didnt get 5 stars is because I think it could use 2 minor changes. However it was still fabulous as is. I brought this to a get together at a friends house and it was gobbled up in about 5 seconds! I plan on making it again for Thanksgiving. I will say that I did not put the second crust on top, just the struesel topping , and it was still great, I will make it again this way. The only other thing I would change, in agreement with a prior user, is to knock most of the chocolate off of the heath pieces. I dont believe that the flavor of it particularly compliments the dish.

    I read other reviews and also did the "ready made pie crust". It made the house smell like heaven! It was very, very good.

    When I substituted 1/4 cup unsalted butter for 1/4 cup of the shortening, the crust on the recipe was even better. My family rated this pie better than Duarte's - and Life Magazine rated their pie one of the best in the Country. Well done, Marles Riessland.

    This was my very first pie I have ever made and wow was it ever a hit! I brought it over to my mom's for Christmas and everyone tried it and loved it. One of my sisters does not like apple pie, but she thought she would try it (since it was my first and she loved it. She said that if apple pie was going to be made again it would have to taste just like this one or better, because this was the best she's ever had. And my Husband also said it was the best Apple pie he has ever had and Apple pie is his favorite! So I totally recommend this pie....It is Awesome!
