This chili was so great but the recipe calls for WAY too much salt.

A good beginner's recipe, with tasty results. Just know that if you aren't a fan of the smoky taste, you might want to skip the chipotle pepper with the adobo sauce. I substituted that with a packet of chili mix my second time around. I also like to add a can of black beans and a can of tomato sauce, for texture. The great thing about this recipe is that it's pretty basic and therefore has lots of room for interpretation. My suggestion is to get creative!

For a similar level but slightly different take, also see Rachael Ray's Indian Summer Turkey Chili. The last couple times I made chili, I used basically a hybrid of these two recipes.

Excellent and easy. I bumped it up t 5 chipotle peppers and that was a good level of spicyness. Also added a can of black beans. Definitely will make again!

Excellent! I added in another 1/2 can of kidney beans and 3 chipolte peppers for some extra spice! SO easy and yummy!

Easy and flavorful. I added some extra chipotle to make spicier, because I found it a little bland as directed.

Delicious easy to make. Two pieces of advice don't waste the paste and go ahead and add the entire can, and secondly to add a little variety in taste and color include black beans. This makes it chunkier, provides more fiber and makes it looks less monotonously "reddish".

This is the best chili I have ever had! My aunt tasted it and had to have the recipe. She makes several times during the winter and cannot wait until it gets cold outside, so she can start making the chili.

Great depth of flavor with only a few ingredients! I like a thicker chili, and found this one to be slightly on the broth-y side. Still, it was a hit for my boyfriend & I. However, next time we will add a second can of beans, maybe use crushed tomatoes instead of whole tomatoes to help add thickness, and reduce the salt by half. Like it spicier? Add more chili powder or chipotles/adobo. Unlike baking where the science determines the ratio of certain ingredients, this is a recipe where you can modify ingredients to suit your family's tastes. Just be sure that when you rate the recipe itself, you are basing your assessment on the original recipe.

Loved it. Made it a little different. Added 2 cans of beans, one can of black and one can of red beans and an extra can of tomoatoes with a half can of water and more tomato paste. I also added all the juice from the canned chipolte. It was spicy and delicious.
