A comment for those who said they had to add more sugar than expected. Salt. When you are mixing in the sugar, add a PINCH or two of salt so that the sugar "catches." It takes the salty to bring out the sweet, ironically. Also, milk is good to mix in too, for a creamier taste. I made this for my family in El Salvador (who were adamant the Horchata made from morro seeds is better, and they went crazy for it. Vanilla is also good to add as well, as long as you don't go crazy. Remember, Horchata is not meant to be a super sweet, heavy drink. It's light. So don't go crazy with the sugar, add a good amount of cinnamon, and enjoy!

Just made this. It's easy, light, and delicious, and not overly sweet like some restaurant and pre-made ones. The only thing i'll change is next time I'll add two cinnamon sticks instead of just one. Must try! :

Just made this and we loved it! I did add vanilla because that is how my ex in-laws made it. We have not found a single bad recipe from Aaron Sanchez!!!

I was fine with the 1/2 c of sugar....I don't like super sweet drinks and take my iced tea unsweetened...so I did not think it needed more sugar like some previous posters. I did think it a bit weak on flavor with the 8c of water and played around with it. I added 1 vanilla bean to the blender mix.

I love horchata! This was my first attempt at trying to make it myself. I should of started it last night... waiting 3-4 hours for it was terrible! I did add 1/2 cup evaporated milk & only used 7 cups of water. Then I added vanilla like suggested (but that was at the end.. But, I don't think this has enough sugar. At, least it took me 1 1/2- 2 cups to taste anywhere near the restaurant ones. I think next time I'll try the sweetened condensed milk (that is in almost every other recipe I found online. But, most of my family loved it anyways =.

This is my favorite drink but is also called Agua de Arroz, rice water, and you
can add condensed or evaporated milk, almonds, vanilla, nuts or coconut for
a different flavor, each region in Mexico has their on. Don't forget a bit of ice.

I thought it was too watery for my taste. I've tasted Horchatas with thicker consistency. So I added milk. Next time Im going to sweeten it with condensed milk and see how that tastes.

While attending a going away party, I noticed a large container of horchata, decided to taste it, to my sheer delight it as good as mom made in Mexico in the 60's. I don't drink soda, summer is here, so be assured Aaron Sanchez sabrosa Horchata will be served often.

I needed more sugar (to taste and cut the water to 7 cups and added half a cup evaporated milk. My hubby loved it and said I hit it on the nose.
