These cookies were a hit with my toddler, guests who usually ate British fare, and my husband's Indian relatives. They also tasted good after freezing.

for the reader who had trouble with chopping the almonds, if you decide to do it again, look in your grocery store for the slivered almonds, and you can do those in the processor alone, which is what i did, and combined everything else in large bowls, and had little to no mess, except for the dusting of the powdered sugar. i would make these again.

The cookies are fantastic, but they made a big mess when I tried to chop the almonds and the sugar together in the food processor. I wound up chopping the almonds by themselves in my little food processor, then added them to the sugar and butter. Same great taste with a lot less mess ... just more dishes.
