I made this recipe to the letter, no subsitutions. My condiment was French cherry preserves since the Swedish jam was not available in my market. I served it with steamed jasmine rice and fresh green beans. My family and I loved it! I will make this wonderful dish again and again! Thank you Food Network Magazine (greatest magazine ever I might add, for recreating this "Ikea" classic!

My daughter loves the Swedish Meatballs at Ikea so I made these tonight for dinner. I followed the recipe exactly as written except I only added 1 tsp salt to the meatballs instead of 2, they came out so salty we had to throw all our beautiful meatballs away. They didn't have much taste otherwise and really had no resemblance to real Swedish meatballs.

Not too bad, but not great. I did not add the garlic because I did not have any on hand. Husband thought they were a bit too bland. Served over noodles.

Ikea's meatballs are the traditionally Swedish and Swedish cuisine never ever, has garlic.
Swedish meatballs with a gravy are a sacrilege! Their charm resides in their simplicity. They are accompanied only by lingonberry preserves and cooked potatoes. this recipe might be tasty but it has very little to do with Swedish meatballs.

Your recipe is pretty good; however, I have always added some ground veal to the beef and pork and then reground the three meats together. Also add a pinch or two of ground ginger. But, what really makes them is simmering the cooked meatballs in the gravy in a 350 oven for an hour or two.

I made this the other night. It was awesome and my husband told me to put it in the keeper book. I didn't read the directions all the way thru and put the garlic and allspice in the ground meats but it still turned out amazing. Good leftover too...just made more gravy.

Absolutely fantastic! I got 58 meatballs out of this recipe. I doubled the gravy and served over mashed potatoes. I also used panko bread crumbs. The flavor and texture of the meatballs are amazing....I will double the meatball recipe next time and keep some frozen for a quick dinner another night. Fantabulous!

Really yummy, but really HEAVY. I too was excited to see this recipe in the magazine, and i used Panko as well. Ready for a nap now. You will have leftovers if you are serving for 2 people.

HEAVENLY !!!
I was so excited to see this recipe in the most recent issue of Food Network Magazine, I just had to try it right away. I LOVE IKea's version and was hopeful these would be even almost as good. DELICIOUS!!! Next time I will double the recipe so we can have leftovers. My husband was practically moaning at the dinner table, lol. And my 4 year old boy who is the pickiest of picky, had 2nd's!!! I definitely recommend this recipe. It tasted just like the IKEA meatballs to me. I wish I could have served it with lingonberry sauce but couldn't find any at my local market. Also, I used panko bread crumbs because that is what I had on hand, and they were still perfect. Wouldn't change a thing!
