This recipe is absolutely delicious! It's also really simple to make. I added a little bit more onion and chicken apple sausage than the recipe calls for, and it came out great... real hearty meal. Also, to tone down the sweet and add a tiny bit more kick, I chopped up a small jalapeno and threw that in the skillet when I added the spices and sausage. I used all three cups of apple juice. I think it really brings out the flavor of the apple in the sausage. I used 100% apple juice, and that may have helped keep it from being too sweet. I think this would really compliment a Thanksgiving or Winter Holiday Dinner. It will definitely be a dish I continue to make! If you like honey-cured ham or meats with a hint of sweet, then you will really appreciate the flavor in this dish!

After reading the reviews I changed the recipe to 1 1/2 cups apple juice and 1 1/2 cups chicken stock. Everyone raved about the results. I will be making this many times in the future.

I gave it one star because my husband actually liked it. I thought it was disgusting. Sausage was sweet and I really didn't like the apple flavor.

This is delicious, easy, and the kids love it! It has become a weekly staple this winter! I do use half apple juice, half chicken stock. I also use 4 cups cheddar, and 2 parmesan. We serve it with a salad, and done! Try this one, you won't be dissapointed.

This was very good! I was a little skeptical at first and I did change a few things after reading the reviews. I used 1 cup apple juice and 2 cups chicken broth, about 4 cups mexican style cheese (think it is 4 different cheeses combined, and only half a sleeve of Ritz crackers. I wanted to cut calorie content down a little.....half a sleeve was plenty for the topping. I really can't wait to make this recipe again.

Yummy!! I changed a few things up. (Actually I change things each time i make it! The first time I made this I didn't have any mustard powder, so of corse I just used regular mustard and just did a few squirts around the pan. Also, I did use CHICKEN sausage and loved it but I really liked the spicey chiken sausage as a oppossed to the apple flavored. The last thing I did different was use 4 cups of cheddar and 2 cups of pepperjack. it was delicious!

This is now my favorite recipe for mac n cheese. I've also gotten complements on it and recipe requests when I've made it for others. I follow the recipe exactly, using blocks of cheese rather than the stuff that is already shredded and in a bag. The bagged shredded stuff made it too dry. 3 cups of apple juice were perfect. And I'd think that if you'd be ok with apple sausage (which is itself sweeter than regular sausage then you should be ok with the slightly sweeter mac n cheese (so quit whining... The only other thing that I sometimes do is use dehydrated onions rather than fresh, if that's what I have. I re-hydrate them first of course, and I haven't noticed any difference in taste. I may try to make this healthier at some point but I love it so much the way it is now.

I made this ingredient for ingredient and it came out inedible. It was WAY too sweet and the flavors were just all jumbled up. If you are going to make this in the future, I would suggest using a low sugar apple juice.

We've made this several times, and when I saw it only got 3 stars, I had to put in my two cents. This recipe is GREAT! We've made it both with full-strength apple juice as well as 2 c. white grape, 1 c. chicken. Both are good. I usually cut the cheese down just a tad, use light sour cream, and bread crumbs instead of Ritz. I know, it's like getting a diet soda at a fast food restaurant, but I suppose every little bit helps. My 18 month old loves it, as do Mom and Dad. Highly recommended!

Loved it! Great as leftovers as well. Was a bit worried about using the apple juice, but it turned out delicious!
