These turned out really good - after I burned the first dozen. As others have said (and as I wish I had read first 400 degrees is WAY too hot for these cookies. I did 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes and they turned out perfectly. Also, I didn't have apple pie spice on hand, but made my own (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cardamom and it worked pretty well. I also decided to use parchment paper instead of the ungreased sheet, which is infinitely better.

These are fantastic! Appley, sweet, delicious. Pretty easy to make too.
The cooking temp in the recipe is definitely a mistake - I baked mine at 350, not 400, for the time listed and they came out perfect. 400 is way too hot for cookies like this.
Also, definitely make sure your cider (and it's cider, not cider vinegar! gets boiled way, way down. It really concentrates the apple flavor. Don't get impatient - I brought mine down until it was almost the consistency of natural maple syrup. It had to be scraped out of the pot with a spatula. The apple flavor was perfect in the cookies.

Great alternative to a snickerdoodle cookie. Loved the crunch, texture and looks of the apple chips. Good cookie to make during the holidays. Finally found the apple chips in the produce section of my local grocery store.

Love the idea of this recipe, but it could definitely use some improvement. For starters, the baking temp/time is too much--like other commenters, my first batches burnt on the bottom (even on parchment paper by the time they were done on top. 375 for more like 9 min (plus a few extra min on the pan out of the oven was much better. As for the cider, note that if you let it cool too much, it will congeal and not distribute equally in the batter. I had to loosen mine with some hot water and even so it wasn't ideal. Also, the flavors aren't quite right. Too salty (and yes, my butter was unsalted, always and I'd recommend including some of the "apple pie spice" (besides cinnamon: allspice, nutmeg and cardamom in the batter. And maybe even some apple liqueur (i tried amaretto, which was nice, but applejack or calvados would be more in line with the idea. And, for that matter, a little vanilla. A little tweaking will make this cookie go a long way.

I baked mine for the shortest recommended time and they were burnt. Even taking them out a few minutes earlier still resulted in rock hard cookies that we thrown out. The apple chips that I rolled my cookies in burnt, but I did appreciate them inside the cookie. I don't think the cider shined through at all. I was super bummed!

SO GOOD! It is essential to reduce the apple cider all the way down to 2 tablespoons... it should be pretty thick and coat a spoon. Also to those who said these didn't taste very good, be sure you are using apple cider the drink and not apple cider vinegar (yuck!, and be careful not to burn it while it's reducing.
I didn't have an issue with dough consistency or flattening in the oven, but I couldn't find apple chips so I used dried apples instead. Just be REALLY careful on cooking time in your oven, as the bottoms can burn in the blink of an eye. Maybe line the cookie sheet with parchment.

All in all an interesting twist on a classic. Based on some of the reviews I just want to remind anyone trying this recipe to make sure you reduce your vinegar all the way. Also, my first batch I pulled out of the oven at eleven minutes was a little too crispy. The second batch I pulled out at nine and a half came out perfect. May just be my oven, but be sure to keep an eye on them.

Everyone loves Snickerdoodles and when I saw this recipe, I thought "how great they would be for our annual office cookie exchange." However, my batter, not dough, was thinner than brownie batter, thicker than cake batter. The cookies--- if that is what you want to call the mess splattered on the cookie sheet, looked and tasted terrible! I threw them out! I could not post this without giving it one star, but I really dont even credit it with that!
