I have tons of basil in my garden this time of year and I hate to waste it. I saw Basil Gnocchi in a food store and thought I'd try making it myself. This is the first recipe I came across. I made one batch of the Gnocchi and it really is very simple. There is more salt than I prefer though it did not taste too salty.

I like that you can freeze it and I'm wondering how that will turn out. Needing to use up more of my fresh basil I made another batch to freeze. This time I cut back on the salt by half.

The dough was too soft this time so I added more flour as I rolled the dough.

I'm anxious to see how the freezing turns out since I have more basil in the garden and I'm tired of basil Pesto! :

    Great recipe! Thanks! NL

Wow - this is really good. As with some others, I was apprehensive about the instant mashed potatoes. Never again will I make gnocchi any other way. Sauce is very flavorful, too.

I followed the reciped exactly and this dish is terrific! After the tomatos had cooked for a little while I smashed them with a fork to make the sauce more of a sauce. I had the leftovers for lunch today and it tasted even better! I would definitely suggest giving this recipe a try!

This gnocchi was GREAT! I've never made gnocchi before, but this was so easy and yummy! I was a little worried at first because the dough was really wet and sticky, so I thought they would turn out mushy, but they were perfect! I didn't use the sauce though, because they were so good on their own, I just ate them plain!

This is the first time I've ever tried making gnocchi and they turned out great! I made it as a side dish for roasted chicken and it was a nice compliment. Like many of the other reviewers I found that I had to add a lot more flour to reach the right consistency, but otherwise this recipe was very easy to execute. The only comment I had from my husband was that next time I should make them with my homemade basil marinara because the odd color of the gnocchi was hard to get over even though they tasted great. Oh well! Will definitely make again!

This was the first time I've ever tried making gnocchi, and it was delicious! I really like that the recipe used instant potatoes (which I had in my pantry from another recipe that cut out a lot of time and effort (baking & ricing the potatoes. I added more water to the instant potatoes than what was called for because they were still a little dry, but that meant I had to add extra flour later! Next time I'll follow the recipe. <grin> I was very pleased with this recipe and will definitely make it again!

I used quite a bit more flour than the recipe called for because the dough was so sticky. Instead of making the sauce, I sauted them in brown butter. Great flavor

I've never made gnocchi before so I decided to try this recipe which I had saved since last summer. It was so yummy! I splurged on heirloom tomatoes, and I think that made a huge difference. I let the sauce go a little too far, but it didn't even matter. I loved this!

I LOVED this recipe, although you can't really go wrong with anything with fresh basil! My only concern was that my gnocchi came out a little glompy (just made up that word so I think next time I will add a little more flour to firm them up. But all-in-all it was delicious!

Made this with my boyfriend last night - I made the gnocchi first myself and the gnocchi didn't come out as green as the picture because I think I used a little less or didn't puree it enough. Made it and stuck in the fridge while we made the sauce. Diced the Shallots more and cut the Tomatoes in a Dice rather than cube so much more juicy/saucy. Used a blend of 3 Heirlooms. Gnocchi was fairly easy to know if it was done if it floated to the top of the boiling water. Put it all together and it was Delicious! Definitely a Keeper and we will make this again. The Sauce too would be great over anything - so good.
