I made a sort of half-size version of this recipe (using an 8x8 pan, and it turned out well. I used my own homemade marinara instead of the quick sauce listed, so I can't make any sort of comment as to this recipe's sauce (though I can say mine was delicious!. I didn't exactly half it, though. I used about half a pound of pasta (maybe a bit more and half a pound of ground hot italian sausage, but I still used 3 cups of sauce--I can't imagine using only 3.5 cups for an entire 9x13 pan! I'm not sure how much mozzerella I used, since the weight listed on the container (three-quarters of a pound included the water it was in, but I wished I'd had more! So once again, if I were to make the full recipe, I would use more cheese than it calls for.
The pinch of pepper flakes adds a nice bit of heat here and there. Also, don't forget to undercook the pasta, since it will soak up a lot of the sauce and cook further in the oven. Even with just an 8x8 pan, my husband and I could barely eat half of it, so we're having it again for supper tonight; I'm actually looking forward to it just as much as last night, and I'm not usually a big fan of leftovers. Homemade sauce and fresh mozzerella make this dish a big winner.

This makes a tasty dish. A good start to build your own style. I like to add a bechemel sauce to mine, but I like the sliced mozz along the top.

It could use a little more sauce and a little more cheese for my personal taste, but it's great as is.

I really enjoyed this dish... it took me a little longer than described but i am no expert in the kitchen. It was fun to make and tasted great and i was able to keep it in the fridge for a week!

This ziti was delicious. I altered the recipe a little by using 2 14 oz cans of italian diced tomatoes and one pint of tomatoes that I had canned. It was out of this world. I will be adding this recipe to my collection and it will become a regular on my table.
