The cake is delicious! I followed the recipe to a T and had no problems at all! Very moist and chocolately.

For all recipes, you should always read the directions completely before starting to bake!

I used this receipe for a baking contest. Unfortunately I was baking in the wee hours of the morning. I missed the step on the hot boiling water. I did add milk. I loved the size of the cakes. I will use this receipe again for another chocolate type cake. Just gotta be awake you ya bake!

Fantastic chocolate cake recipe! I follow it to a tea and it was perfect. I used it to make their Grasshopper Cake and the entire dessert was incredibly good!

Amazing! I'm eating it as I type and I am very happy right now. My batter was runny like it was supposed to be and not like cement at all. The boiling water is not a typo. Make sure to add it. Don't over mix and don't over bake and you will get one great chocolate cake! I'll be making this again and again!

What a mess. It was so dense, and I used the boiling water. I will not be making this again.

The List of Ingredients does NOT include the 1 1/2 of boiling water, which is only mentioned in the directions. The batter was the consistency of Portland cement!! After carefully reviewing the recipe in the magazine and on this site, I finally noticed the boiling water being omitted from the List of Ingredients. This was VERY frustrating.

I made the recipe exactly as it says and I didn't have a problem as the previous rater did. I like my chocolate cake a bit more sweet. It is a pretty dense cake. I will make it again though.

There is definitely an error in the recipe. It states that the batter should be thin...it's like thick fudge. After reviewing other cake recipes, there is not nearly enough liquid in this cake recipe. All other recpies have milk or water or both in addition to the oil. I added 1 1/4 cup hot water to thin it out. It baked up nicely and I'm hoping the taste will be good.
