After simmering for 1 hour and 15 minutes, this recipe tasted bland to both my wife and I. I added 5 tbsp of chow-chow and continued to let it simmer for another 45 minutes. The chow-chow added the extra kick without all the heat of straight red pepper. It was fantastic and we will be cooking this again. Also I used half veg oil and half bacon grease to infuse a little more flavor to the onions and beef. Cook on chefs...Cook on

I had to REPOST. We loved this recipe exactly the way it is. But to accommodate the tastes of all our guests, we did not add the 2 TBS chili powder at the end. Awesome! BUT I want to say also that you won't miss the ground beef...just cut beef up into 1/2 inch cubes or smaller AND MAKE SURE THE PACKAGE SAYS "BONELESS CHUCK". Tonight we ended up with some version that the butcher swore was the same but it was more like stew.

Simply delicious! I found this recipe a while ago and I made it, I simply added a bit of bacon to give it a smoky flavor a bit and changed the instant coffee espresso but equally delicious was definitely this chili recipe became a favorite recipe family!

Savory, scrumptious, spicy, sweet, tasty. All of the above for sure. I used ground round but that is the only change. This dish will go in the family recipes box,I have picky eaters in my family and everyone loved it, even the little one(6 years old didn't pick through it. Now if I could just find more of these easy to please dinners my life would be set. I think it's the little shot of coffee that makes the difference.

Fantastic. Very rich flavors, and easy to match each person's need for heat--I leave the chills out of the main recipe, but let my husband top his bowl with them--everyone's happy. I also keep single-serve instant coffees on hand, strictly for this chili! :

This was great! 1/3 cup sounded like way too much chili powder so we only put a capful, and it turned out not very spicy at all, especially after mixing in the dairy. Planning to try it again with fresh tomatoes, the onions, garlic and some mild chiles all roasted in the oven, I think it will be fabulous!
