I did NOT include the bacon. I browned the chicken in a bit of olive oil. I don't have the bacon version for comparison but I found this to be extremely flavorful.

Beer taste is over powering!! Based on previous reviews, I didn't add any brown sugar until cooking was almost done and then only added a little at a time but not the 2 tbls. called for. I added carrots and some sliced mushrooms I had in refrig. Also reduced mustard to 1 tablespoon, didn't have fresh thyme so used dry. I would not make this again. There was something about the taste that I didn't like and try as I might to make it better it just didn't work.

This was a hit and leftovers were even better! Depending on the size of your potatoes you should cut them into quarters to make sure they are fully cooked. The bacon added a smokiness to the dish that was great and, like the reviewer before me, I used Brooklyn Brown Ale. You could probably sub white meat chicken if you want, but the rich dark meat stood up to the other flavors so well - I wouldn't change a thing!

Great easy and fast comfort food. I omitted the brown sugar but can see how it might liven it up. Used a Brooklyn Brown Ale and low sodium chicken broth. Perfect with crusty bread and a side of steam veggies.

My family enjoyed this recipe. The chicken had a nice hint of the ale to it. I substituted Splenda blend for the brown sugar and reduced the thyme with no repercussions.

I couldn't wait to try this recipe and it did not disappoint! I actually had to add more than 1 cup of water so I poured in a little extra beer.

Next time I am going to add carrots (my husband suggested that, 1/4 the potatoes, add fewer onions since I am the only one who eats them, and add a little more mustard to counter act the sweetness.

And I love the idea of serving it over egg noodles! Great idea. Thanks for that. =

Really good- I let the chicken simmer for a while longer so it was really tender. I didn't have fresh parsley and just chopped up a yellow onion and it was still super yummy.

Great comfort food recipe. I also added more potatoes, carrots, and I substituted turkey bacon. At the end, I also thickened the gravy at the end with alittle flour. Was great! Next time...and there will be a next time...I will add more onions and cube the chicken.
