I've never made better cookies than these. Easy to make, buttery, not overpoweringly sweet, and light. I also followed the suggestion by a rater to dust them with powdered sugar. Absolutely wonderful!!! PS: No need for parchment paper. I plopped them on a plain cookie pan spritzed with pam. No burning at all.

These just came out of the oven: I used a silpat on one tray & greased wax paper on the other. The cookies on the silpat spread out, to the point that some jam leaked through, whereas they turned out perfectly on the wax paper. I'm not sure what I could do to make the silpat work, it was my first time using it - lower the temp maybe? I refrigerated both trays for 10-15min before baking.

These cookies are delicious. Ina Gartin makes a version of these also. I decided to make it easier by buying premade sugar cookie dough. Roll small balls, toss into beaten egg, then coconut. Place onto baking pan (grease first.. then press shallow thumb print. Place jam of choice and bake until light brown!

This was an upset. I had to go to a speciality grocery store to get the vanilla bean and I didn't think the cookies tasted all that great for the effort. Next time I'll just buy the Pepperridge Farm Veronas.

My husband and I made these with our kids last night, and they had fun rolling them in the sugar and making the thumbprints. Our filling of choice was a nice red plum jam, which complemented the butter flavor and looked festive for the Christmas season. I do recommend, however, a wider rather than deeper thumbprint in order to cover more area--the cookie itself suffers from slight blandness without the jelly. These are also much better the next day!

the taste of butter lingers on your palate long after its consumption. YUM!

Like some others before me the cookies turned out flat and useless. There is nothing in the recipe about chilling the dough beforehand but that may have helped. There's too many other cookie recipes out there to try this again.

I was apprehensive about trying this recipe after reading so many review complaining about how much the cookies spread, but I decided to give it a whirl anyway, since jam thumbs are my favorite cookies. I'm glad I did, because I found this recipe very easy, and I was thrilled with the results. I didn't find that my cookies spread much at all. I baked these with a friend, and prepared the dough in advance and then refrigerated it for about 2 hours before I shaped and baked the dough--perhaps because they started cold, that stopped them from over spreading? Dunno. Anyway, these cookies were great, and it's fun to experiment with the types of jam. I totally spaced and forgot to buy either apricot or raspberry jam, so we tried them with pumpkin butter from Trader Joe's and cranberry jam, and those were both great as well. So fear not and go ahead and bake these, they're great!

I have never been so excited about a recipe as to rate it before! These were so easy and so good! I saw a few reviews that the jam overflowed, I only used 1/2 t instead of 3/4 and I had no trouble. So good!
