This takes time but well worth it. A few changes I would make next time is a larger pan everything was a bit crowded. And the cooking time is def off. This cakes takes close to 2 hours to bake. Other than that Delicious!!!!

I love to try new recipes. I made this cake and NO ONE liked it. I have to say that this is the worst thing I have ever made. It was terrible. over 2/3 of the cake went in the trash

AMAZING CAKE!! I did just a few things different, used a bundt cake pan instead of a round, and peeled the apples....those were the only changes I had to make. The time it took was well worth the presentation and the super delicious flavor. Even the parts of the cake that did not have carmel or apple on it were moist and flavorful!

Recipe takes patience. It really is just 3 minutes (maybe a little less of stirring after you add the cream and butter. Butter the cake pan heavily on the bottom before pouring in the caramel. When you are ready to turn out the cake: leave it in the water bath the full 8 minutes. I rushed it and a couple of the apples and some caramel stuck. After reading the reviews I decided to peel my apples and cut them in smaller slices then placed in overlapping layers on the caramel. I chopped the remaining apples and laid them on top of the batter. I used a 9x15x2 glass pan and it worked fine. The cake is pretty and tastes delicious. It is a coarse crumb with a mild flavor, letting the caramel and apples take the show. It wouldn't hurt to add another tsp of cinnamon or a 1/4 tsp of applle pie spice for those that like more flavor.

Tasted delicious! But... it took forever to assemble, bake and clean all the dishes up. Way to putsy for me to make it again. I had a ton of left over caramel sauce and the middle of the cake was still wet/under cooked after the cooking time. Oh well, it still tasted super good.

The overall appeal of this cake was great. The caramel sauce was plentiful (didn't need to make so much and the taste of the sauce was addictive. However, the unpeeled, large pieces of apple were impossible to cut through and eat in bites with the cake. I will certainly peel the apples and cut into smaller bite-size slices the next time I make this cake. My husband thought the cake was much better heated up with hot caramel sauce. Seemed too dry at room temperature.

I thought this was the worst cake I ever made! I follow directions to a tee..I have no idea what went wrong but I spent a lot of $$ on a 9 x 3 round pan (& looked for months. The apples are not edible as skins are impossible to chew! Cake itself looks beautiful but caramel hardened so much by the next day you would loose a tooth if you could even bite into it..have ruined my utensils, the glass measuring cup I stored all the way too much extra caramel sauce in that is so hard I cannot even microwave to get it all out! Very dissappointed as I waited months to get this new 9 x 3 pan & lots of $$ on ingrediants!

The cake looked beautiful. Just like the picture. I wasn't overly impressed on the taste. It was a little dry and too sweet. I poured the extra caramel over the top and waited about 30min to serve. That was a mistake because the caramel hardened and then it was a disaster cutting it. If you pour on the extra caramel, do it right before serving. Also, I used a 9"x4" pan and that worked well. The cake rose pretty high.
