I made this a few weeks ago for my neighbors. I love caramel apples and when I saw this recipe I HAD to try it out. I thought it was easy to make, but did take some time and patience. The hardest part was getting the pan out of the water when loosening the caramel. Next time I will use a more shallow pan. It was fun to make this cake and I will be making it again this weekend for a church fellowship.= As Rachel Ray says "YUM-O!"

This cake came out absolutely wonderfully delightful! The caramel came out perfect! Best caramel I have ever made! Sure, the whole process was a bit time consuming and took me about four hours to get it all done...it was WELL worth it. If you follow the directions and use all the right ingredients and tools then it will come out great! Made sure to really butter the pan...I mean REALLY butter it! Butter the butter. Haha. I waited until the next day to flip it over...which was great because it gave the cake time to settle and really soak in the moisture. I will definitely be making this again!

I used my 10 inch springform pan, Baked approx 1 hour 10 min. It was easy to remove, except carmel spilled all over my kitchen, and some of the cake stuck to the pan. It tasted delious. I didn't add any more carmel sauce on top. I don't think it was needed. But now I can make it again and use the left over carmel to start with.

This was a complete waste of time and money. Usually food network recipes come out great so I don't know what happened this time since I followed the recipe to a T. The recipe says cook the carmel until it's a dark amber color (i read somewhere else that it should only be cooked until its light amber because it will cook more as its cooling but i did it anyway and it tasted burnt. Then I made the cake batter which i poured into my 9 by 3in cake pan (that i bought just for this recipe and it ended up taking an extra hour to cook, let it cool and when i turned the cake over the entire thing fell apart and the carmel was gel like. i threw it right in the garbage. Very disappointing :(

To reduce the cooking time you might want to pre cook the apples. I cooked it for the recommended time and the apples were not cooked. The cake batter was raw in the center, but everyone liked the taste. A lot of work for a half cooked cake, I will have to have a lot of energy to re-do this one.

It tastes good. Festive to make. JUST USE FOIL TO CATCH THE SPILL OVER. How hard is that? I think for someone who doesn't want the hassle of caramel making, you could try store bought caramel. This caramel in the recipe was NOT bitter. My cake began to collapse when cooling. I put it back in the oven for a while longer. The center collapsed when I inverted it. Not disappointing though. It basically looked like a bunt cake. I found that I did not need all of the caramel that was set aside. Still tasted good and my husband ate a huge piece and the rest of mine. Try it! You'll like it.

My family absolutely loved it - however, the caramel gets way too tacky. Wondering what I can add so it's possible to eat the leftovers!!! Help!

This was my first time EVER making the carmel home made- and it was a super SUCESS! i saw many people had difficulties with this recipe, so i was a little hesitant on whether to try it out or not, but im pregnant and it sounded really good, so i had to give it a try. I have not tasted it as of yet, but did try the carmel as well as the batter prior to adding the egg, and it tasted good! Im saving it for tomorrow because im taking several desserts over to my moms house for my grandma's birthday!

Wow, this had to be the first time I ever followed a recipe and failed miserably! My caramel was bitter which made the cake taste terrible. I read the reviews and I thought my cake pan was tall enough but no such luck, my oven is a disaster, smoke everywhere! You MUST use the 3" cake pan it calls for or you will have batter all over your oven. As far as the caramel, I will have to keep trying!
