A few years back, for my 33rd birthday celebration at work, I requested to have Chicago-style Hot Dog party. Each person was instructed to bring one food item and they pitched in money to purchase Ursigner Beef Dogs for Milwaukee (better than Vienna beef!. I had my sibling in Chicago send me the correct relish and Jay's Potatoes were already being sold in St. Louis. I was set! I even gave my co-workers a lesson on how to build and eat the Chi-town dog properly.

piccalili [unsure of spelling] is a BRIGHT GREEN relish that is officially used. not sweet pickle relish. I can get it at deli counter of grocery store.

I have to agree on the bright green relish. I often wonder where I can get some of this stuff--it seems crisper. I believe it is sold in the supermarkets in the greater Chicagoland area. I was just there and forgot to get it! Also, forget to get Jay's potato chips too. Forgot about them, a co-worker here in KC said "Where're my Jay's!" Oops. Can't wait to try your recipe--forgot about the poppyseed buns and celery salt--thanks for the reminder! My mouth is watering!

This is a good starter but real Chicago style hot dogs require deep green sweet relish and sport peppers. McCormick's celery salt and Vienna Beef hot dogs are the tops.
