Fantastic recipe! Made them for my kids' softball and baseball teams; they went over very well! Got a lot of compliments; followed directions outlined to a "T" and loved the results!!!!

I replaced the water with orange juice and added orange zest then used cream cheese frosting instead. I couldn't find the Airheads and didn't want to run all over town so I used slightly off white sticks of gum instead. The dimensions are slightly different but the effect is the same. Adorable!

i used my grass tip to pipe green cream cheese frosting as grass instead of coconut. I thought that tasted better!

Is anyone else using the cupcake recipe in a high altitude? The first batch completely overflowed into a giant pancake on top of the pan, so the next batch I only filled 1/2 full. These are even starting to run over the top of the baking tin. Tasty, but I wish I had used a store-bought mix. Epic fail...

Very cute! Made these for my son's 1st grade Easter party. I used a box cake (confetti and store icing(whipped vanilla w/Easter cup wrappers. I used different color peeps & pastel sweetart jelly beans (as I wasn't sure if the kids would like malt balls w/green colored coconut. I refrained from using the taffy shell -- reading the other reviews it looked like alot of work. Just a fun way to dress up a cupcake!

So these were a big hit at my dinner and then at the office the next day because they look awesome. However, they are not the most practical of cupcakes. With the Peep (which are pretty much like eating granules of sugar already and the airheads AND the whoppers on top of sweetened coconut and frosting it is quite a lot to take in. I was advising people to "take it apart" before eating it. Also, Assembling them took some skill of balancing all the components on top of the little cupcake. And I completely agree with the airheads being difficult to cut (my hand was burning after like 3 but also the White Airhead is the "mystery" flavor so its not the most practical to put in a bite with everything else as you could get anything from Cherry or Lemon taste.
Anyway, they are super fun to make and definitely one of the cutest foods I've ever seen/made so A+++ for that!!

I made these last night, and like many of the reviewers, I used a box cake mix (devils food w/about a cup of mini choc. chips added and a different frosting recipe that turns out very much like whipped cream. I dyed the frosting green (not sure why it is blue in the recipe; are the chicks supposed to be up in the sky?? and rolled them in the tinted coconut, then fastened the decorations on with small amounts of frosting, which acts like a glue. Thanks to Debbie for the suggestion of putting the water & food coloring in a resealable bag before adding the coconut; that worked beautifully! And thanks also to Michelle for suggesting the marshmallow fondant for the egg shells. Wow! It's super easy to make & work with (I used the Wilton recipe found on their website. I was able to find Air Heads candy at the grocery store. I thought it would be in a package by itself, but it turned out the white was part of a 6-flavor combo box. I was better able to shape & cut the candy by putting it between 2 pieces of parchment paper & alternately microwaving it for approx.10 seconds, then rolling it out with the rolling pin (again, between the parchment paper, otherwise it will stick to your rolling pin! until it was thin & pliable enough. Then I cut out egg shapes with an egg cookie cutter & used a knife to cut the eggs in half w/the jagged edges. However, the marshmallow fondant was ultimately much prettier and better-tasting, so that's what I went with. I also used both the mini Robin eggs (malted milk choc. and Brach's speckled jelly bean eggs, which have such pretty pastel colors.
