I just baked these great little cookies and after reading the review I don't know what went wrong for some. I did make some changes which might have changed the outcome of my cookies. First off I only added cinnamon to the cookies because that is all I had also I did not have muffin tins so I made them as drop cookies. My dough was not dry at all, they cookies came out chewy and the nuts gave a great flavor (I put the nuts on top of the cookie since I made them without the tins Hope these suggestions help because these really are a great cookie!

This cookie is dry, because it is a tea cookie and is supposed to be dry. I had much better luck on my second try with these. Here is what I did differently...

1 Don't worry about over-mixing. You need to mix these for about two minutes at med-hi speed.

2 Melt the butter and let it cool, then add it into the sugar.

3 Add the egg yolks AFTER the dry ingredients have been mixed in.

4 I cut the cardamom in half because I thought it was a little overpowering the first time out. Just a personal preference though.

Making these changes seemed to help these be not quite as crumbly as the first batch. If you are looking for moist and savory cookies, these are not for you.

I think FN has done a terrific job with this year's cookie selections. Of course the holidays are about tradition and favorites and I love that aspect. But if I wanted to stick with nothing but the usual stuff, I wouldn't need to subscribe to the 12 days of cookies, would I? Keep it up, FN!

There is not enough liquid in this recipe. Batter was dry and crumbly and the baked cookies were atrocious. This really sucked!!!

Just made these this morning. Unlike several others, my dough consistency worked out and the cookies melted down into the muffin shape. The texture was very good (not dry-- somewhat chewy and the nuts added some nice crunch. They were a little too sweet for my taste, however (surprising, since the recipe actually says they are not too sweet, although my husband did like them. I substituted half allspice and half ground clove for the cardamom (which I did not have so that may have changed the flavors a bit.

As for this year's 12 days of cookies, I think the international theme is neat. What I do not like is that almost every recipe (or perhaps every recipe contains nuts. My sister-in-law is highly allergic to nuts, so I cannot make any of these for family. Seems they could have a few recipes that don't call for nuts. Oh well!

Great, flavorful combination of spices and chocolate. Perfect for tea or after dinner. Not too sweet, just right!

I followed this recipe to the letter and was disappointed in the outcome. The batter was dry and did not melt down on the nuts and looked just like they did when put in oven to cook, lumpy. They were soft just out of the oven, but the next day were dry and hard. Something seems to be missing from this recipe maybe vanilla? Only giving two stars because it was easy to make.

Why not try something new for once and rate that instead of offering your unsolicited opinion? Send your complaints to the staff who will READ it.

That said, I wanted to make these, but I can't tell from the two or so reviews whether it's worth it. I've had something similar before, and the salt, chocolate, and texture of the oats made for a DELICIOUS combination!

To the cook who had trouble with crumbly cookies, I think that is somewhat typical of oat cakes. Maybe try adding some milk or buttermilk?

I don't understand why other readers are so against the international cookie theme. I absolutely love the idea and it's an interesting twist. Be more open-minded people! This is the reason why there are stereotypes of the "stupid and hyper-nationalistic American." I'm an American too, but at least I try not to fit the stereotype.

Since we all seem to be ranking out this year's cookie selection on the Chocolate Oat Cakes review page, I might as well join in, since it's rating is already shot!!

I am terribly disappointed in this year's recipe choices. There was only one recipe that I would remotely even think about trying. I have a whole cookbook called "International Cookie Cookbook," that I can go to if I want international cookie recipes. It's not even the fact that they are international recipes; they are just plain unappealing and do not looking tempting. Bring back all the good ole recipes that our mothers and grandmothers baked!
