i watched pioneer woman's ham show and decided to try this: timer equipped oven made it possible to get it in before i left for church at 0830 on Easter (yikes! and ham was perfectly cooked and ready for carving when family arrived at 1 pm. also used the hoisin glaze to fabulously successful result.

I'd never cooked a ham shank before and it could not have been easier. Loved the choices of glazes to make for the ham (I chose the mustard orange glaze. I set the oven temperature between 325 and 350 as one other recipe stated 350 vs 325. It is foolproof and very delicious! Thanks Food Network!

Use this if you want to burn the bejezes out of your ham. I am so mad about how much money I wasted on a burnt ham. Not even halfway through cooking time.

I usewd this recipe yesterday for Easter Dinner. I had never made a ham before and I followed this recipe. a 12 lb Smoked half butt...WOW! it was so delicious, and tender, and all 7 of us devoured it. There is just a little bit left and now I am going to search for a good soup recipe to use the bone for. The best Ham I have ever had. My guests and my BF are still tslking about how good it was.

The classic glazed ham with mustard-orange glaze really impressed my Easter guests. I picked it because the timing worked with putting it in the oven before leaving for church, then getting home and finishing it before the guests arrived...but it was a real winner. Delicious, moist, awesome flavor and it smelled great as soon as we got home.

Quick & simple way to cook your ham.
Upon the request of my wife for an Atkins friendly version i made the following changes.
Firstly i cooked the ham in 1/4" diet Pepsi covering with foil for the first 30-40mins.
Next for the glaze i loosely used the Apple/maple recipie making the following changes.

Boil 1 cup apple cider in a saucepan over medium-high heat until reduced to 1/2 cup (8 to 10 minutes. Add 1 cup madiera wine and 1/2 cup diet Pepsi, 1tbsp low sodium soy sauce,1 tbsp worstcestshire, 1/2 teaspoon allspice and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Reduce to 1/2 cup again. Finish with 1tbsp butter & use as directed.

While allowing the Ham to sit, pour off the cooking juices into a saucepan & reduce by half again, skim the fat & serve with the ham.
Note; My wife said the glaze made a great salad dressing to go with the salad i served her with the dish. I had steak fries & it went well with those too!

I love this method for cooking a ham. Really easy. I am not crazy about cloves, so I leave them out. While all of the glazes look awesome and I want to try them all eventually, this year I tried the mustard orange one. It's great! I highly recommend this method for cooking a glazed ham.

FYI, to the reviewers, of April 18th through the 20th; last week, the glaze recipes, that we were able to scroll down to now, weren't there, so their confusion, and disappointment was justified. I too was looking for some great ham glazes, and this recipe offered none.
However, the glazes listed here now, look fantastic, and I can't wait to try at least three of them. Thanks for the correction Food Network.

I'm sorry this appears to rate so low because people couldn't find the glaze recipes! This is wonderful. I make mine almost the same but had not turned to oven up for the glazing portion before. Improves on an already great ham. I use ginger ale or 7-up instead of water in the pan though. The mustard orange glaze is the best!
