I couldn't believe it. They actually did taste like cornbread so I ate them with soup and no frosting. They were not "cakeish".

I made these tonight and they were great! I always bake with 50/50 blend whole wheat/all purpose flour for extra health benefits, so I had to increase the milk to 2/3 cup. Other than that, I used the recipe and they turned out perfect. Not too sweet, but that's the way I like them, since frosting is super sweet. I guess if you're used to store-bought cupcakes you'll probably want to add more, commercial baked goods almost always have more sugar than anything else. I didn't make the frosting, so I can't vouch for that recipe, but it sounds great, too.

For the others that had issues on other comments, double check your ingredients. If you use salted butter instead of unsalted, they'll probably be too dry, and one person said something about them being oily... maybe used margarine? Also, baking times are approximate and the recipe may need to be adapted for different altitudes.

Overall I'd say this is an easy recipe and turned out fantastic!

Good luck to all and happy baking!

I made the icing to cover a cake I baked. My boyfriend and I really did like the icing. I used Ghirardelli milk chocolate bar and semi-sweet chocolate chips. The frosting came out very well-very RICH! I did not try to bake the cupcakes and from the sounds of it possibly will not. However, I do feel that I have gotten a very good milk-chocolate icing from all of this though!

This little duck looks like it's in distress in the middle of an oil spill! I will be changing the icing color to blue when I make these :

These were dry and tasteless. I agree with the reviewer who said they tasted like cornbread. Cornbread with chocolate frosting is definitely not what I was going for.
We tasted one and chucked the rest- they were THAT bad.

these cup cakes are not desirable in any way. they are dry and have a corn bread taste to them. i even under cooked them and they still came out very dry and crumbly. I do not recommend this recipe, the icing is not bad, just needs to be sweetened up a bit.

These cupcakes are too delicious. They are moist and taste like heaven on earth! I make them at least 3 times a week because they are just that amazing! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! I could eat them all day...I actually did once. But anyway, these are the best cupcakes ever and the icing is just...well...the icing on the cake! It is fabulous! I recommend these sooo much!
