I made this icing for a batch of cupcakes from a yellow cake mix from a box (i was craving the batter and now I'm craving the icing! So good. I used Hershey's Special Dark and Hershey's Milk Chocolate and it came out deee-lish.

the recipe is super easy and I followed it to a T...but it did not come out great... it needs something to make the cake lighter and fluffier. It came out a bit heavy...I'd try it again but next time with something to make it sweeter and lighter.

Ok. We tried to make some yummy cupcakes tonight, but what we got could be on FRINGE. They were super buttery, and tasted like custard. The frosting WOULD NOT stick to them. These are simply the most disgusting cupcakes you could possibly make. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN NEAR THEM! And to all those wackos that say these cupcakes are good, you need to get back on your meds and be put in a staright jacket.

The cake batter definitely needs a little more sugar, and maybe a bit more milk to make it more moist and fluffier. The icing is good if you won't want it to be too overbearing.

I do know how to cook and bake rather well. These have the consistency of dry cornbread. Icing was alright. Will not repeat.

THESE CUPCAKES WERE AWESOME! - Please do not listen to those tragic reviews about this recipe. Whoever says they had problems making these SOUULD NOT BE BAKING BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW. These are the perfect cupcakes, moist, rich and delicious!

Just walk away. These came out horrible. I'm not sure if it was human error or weather that made these cupcakes so bad but I couldn't even finish one. The cupcake was grainy and tasted strange to me. I usually have a cupcake recipe I use but I wanted to try something different. I thought it was was unusual to use melted butter and maybe that was the difference. I made these, threw them away, went back to my tried and true recipe and they came out fine. That is what makes me think that I wasn't the reason they tasted bad.

My son and I were wanting something sweet, so we used this recipe for the cupcakes (we did not make the icing since I already had some store bought. I have to say, they were not that good. They were dry, not moist, like good cupcakes. The batter tasted good, but cupcakes didn't turn out the same way. Even my son, who is 5 years old and will usually eat ANYTHING sweet, wouldn't even finish one! That just goes to show that they weren't that great. I will probably be throwing them out, and I will not be making them again...

By the way, I am an experienced baker and I followed the directions accurately, so I'm pretty sure the problem wasn't me.

I haven't tried this icing, but I've made these cupcakes more than a few times, with buttercream icing. They are perfect! Literally, the best I've ever had - and cupcakes are my favorite thing; I'm pretty critical. I've never had an issue with dryness at all. I bake them for 20 mins and use unsalted butter. The batter is the best, too! I have made these as coconut cupcakes as well; just substituting coconut extract for the vanilla...so good. Love!
