I was very excited to try this Macaroon but I have to say it didn't live up to my expectations. While they looked delicious, they were way too sweet. I made cookie platters with them and I was given the same feedback from those who tried them. Looked beautiful, but tasted too sweet...even for those with a major sweet tooth.

I made these for my grandmother who LOVED them - my husband thought the orange zest was too powerful - however my grandma felt it tasted just fine. The only problem I had was trying to get them dry enough... They were still gooey after baking for longer than the instructions stated.

As Rachel would say, these cookies are "delish".

When forming the pyramids make sure you only wet your finger tips. Re-wet them after forming every second or third pyramid.

I also had to use the sweetened coconut as I was unable to find unsweetened. The recipe worked perfectly inspite of the difference.

I thought these cookies turned out wonderfully delicious. I made them for my mother this Christmas, so I left out the orange zest (she hates zest of any kind. Instead I used a little orange extract. The only reason I didn't give this recipe 5 stars is that in order to form the pyramid mounds of cookies you end up getting very messy. The cookies didn't want to stay together well, and at the end I had coconut all over my fingers. I followed the recipe and used water to moisten my fingers before forming the cookies, but the water seemed to keep the cookies from staying together well. But, without the water, the cookies wanted to stick to my hands! I got a little frustrated, but eventually decided that I didn't care much what the cookies looked like. As long as they were on the cookie sheet. After baking they turned out crunchy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. The cranberry and citrus flavors were a nice change to the usual macaroon. They were the easiest cookies I have ever made. I will definitely make them again.

I am a sucker for any macaroon but I really liked the bit of tartness from the cranberries.

Made 9 types of holiday cookies this year and shipped them out this week. 2 families have received the cookies so far and already gotten rave reviews of this one as their favorite by members of both families.
