    These are really good and really easy to make. I made a few substitutions. I used dried cranberries and apricots instead of the figs and peanuts instead of the walnuts. I will try with almonds next time. I didn't have any dry milk so I used non-fat dry coffee creamer instead. They turned out great. The only thing was the cooking time seemed a little too long for my oven. They were perfectly done after 15 minutes. I wrapped them individually in foil and then put them in a zip top bag in the freezer. Even right out of the freezer they are soft enough to eat.

    Ellie, I loved these bars! I am not a fan of figs so I switched out the figs for dried cranberries. I also used Raisin Bran cereal instead of the bran flakes alone, that way I had raisins in them also! Perfect for some resealable snack bags to grab on the go!

    I have made these twice now. The first time I followed the recipe exactly, then next time I used a mix of figs, prunes and dried cranberries. Both were excellent. They are a great alternative, both in taste and price to store bought energy bars. I froze half of the batch, and my boyfriend was able to take a frozen one on his long-bike rides, by the time he was ready to eat it, it was thawed out.

    Dear Ellie;
    I loved your concept (fig and Walnut Energy Bar,,
    I was not sure how long and how to stem the figs, can you email me the direction.
    Also if you have the Grams conversion of each item, because we all masseur differently and that would change the calorie count.
    I did preppier it once, however I over food processed it it did not look like yours.
    thank you for your help.
    Betty
