I had the same problem as a few others the first time I tried it. The dough was crumbly and the cookies didn't cook right and were too crunchy. I tried again but this time I pulverized the almonds until they were dust. Problem solved! The second batch was perfect! Crispy, chewy, tasty, just like they are supposed to be. I'm making them to bring for Christmas.

What a great recipe, almost as good as bakery. I like them even w/o chocolate. This is the one cookie that gets eaten up the fastest, addictive. I baked exactly 10 mins and 30 secs to take out golden. Even if some cookies bake into one another, it's ok. You can break apart when cool, it still looks fine. Let sit on parchment on a rack for 5 or 10 mins and they peel off easily. I then had a moment of genius and used a whoopie pie pan; it has 12 separate indentations and keeps the cookie round and they won't spread out into one another. As recipe states, do NOT store these with other, softer cookies or they will lose their crunch.

This is my first time ever chiming in. Parchment was perfect, added almond extract, loved the orange zest (used clementine zest. They were so easy to make and the payoff is unbelievable. These cookies are perfection!

These cookies are really good. I made some for the first time last week and am now adding this recipe to my traditional Christmas cookie giveaway!

These were a hit! I love the orange hints paired with the almonds. Used sliced, unblanched almonds, and they still turned out great.
Easy and straightforward to make.

Everyone loved these! Not one person had a complaint! I've been asked to make these again this year for Christmas, and I can't wait to have one myself.

Love these cookies!!! I left out the orange zest because I've never had them that way and it didn't sound good. I also use honey instead of corn syrup. I found another similar recipe using honey and didn't want to buy a whole bottle of corn syrup that I'd never use. They are very simple and easy to make. I also didn't bother using a food processor for the almonds. If you buy sliced almonds it's easy to just break them up in the bowl with your hands. Much less risk of over processing. I found 5.5 minutes is the best cooking time for me. You do have to be very careful of the size and it may take a few tries to get the right cooking time. I used to buy these at a local bakery for a pretty hefty price but now I can make them at home for pennies!!!

AARRGGG! Not easy to make....at least it wasn't for me. I've had Florentines before, I know they are good. I am just stubborn enough to keep trying. I had a catastrophe with the dough! It was completely crumbly and non cohesive. I think my problem may have been the fact that I was doubling the recipe, or that I didn't cook the sugar long enough. Either way I tried to salvage all the ingredients by adding a ton of melted butter and flour, balled them up and baked. Half way through baking I had to manually flatten them. LOL, it gets worse....They looked awful but tasted decent at best. Well, I sifted confectioners sugar on them while warm then used the melted chocolate to decorate. People still ate them at the party and asked for the recipe. When life hands you lemons..... :
