OMG. I was not expecting this. I didn't even read the reviews before making because I saw it on the magazine. Wow. The prepping is a bit time-consuming but it's worth every minute. Followed the recipe almost exactly how it says. The only things I did differently were using Pecorino instead of Parmesan (it's what I had and I cooked everything in my Le Creuset, then transferred to a oven-proof dish for the broiling part. Absolutely fantastic. Also, I used the broiler on High for 3 minutes.

This dish was amazing! My sister and brother-in-law had a huge crop of butternut squash and I've been trying to find a simple yet tasty dish to use them in. This was perfect and simple and the flavors although not many married well together. My kitchen smelled fantastic!

This dish is absolutely delicious!!!!!! Even better when you misread and add an extra Tablespoon of butter! I fixed it in a cast iron skillet. I had fresh sage. I decreased the pepper to 1/2 teaspoon to make sure it wasn't too spicy for the grandsons.

I love veggie dishes, but wasn't sure how this would turn out. Delicious! I used the fresh/dry-pack gnocchi since I'm pretty sure the recipe in the FN magazine says to use that kind. I didn't have sage, but used some rosemary. Parm makes it! I used veggie stock and it was wonderful. A great, hearty fall or winter meal!

Great Recipe! I've made this 3 times already. We made this for our daughter's 1st birthday dinner and needed to test to see if she and we would like it, we all loved it. I made a small batch for her with whole wheat gnocchi, no salt and no red pepper. I made a batch for the rest of the party with the addition of a 1lb of hot turkey sausage, increased the butternut squash and kale and while cooking the sausage sauteed half an onion. Also added a bit of panko bread crumbs to the top along with the cheese before putting in the oven. Guests that swore they hated kale were eating multiple helpings (they thought it was spinach!

This was so much better than I thought it would be. I'm a huge fan of butternut squash and kale so I knew I was going to try it, but the flavor was off-the-chart in my opinion. Another one of those, "I can't believe I made something that tastes this good" moments - and it was easy to do! Also, very low in points for you Weight Watchers folks out there :

This was very good. Pet peeves about recipes -- "one bunch" of kale could mean almost anything. 8 cups is better, but is it loose or packed or what? Also, what kind of gnocchi is the recipe based on? Fresh, frozen? This is sort of important.
Anyway, I made this tonight and thought it was great. I used a one-pound bag of frozen gnocchi, and the liquid called for in the recipe wasn't enough given the size of the pan I used, so I had to add more during cooking. I also was surprised at how much the kale shrank (I did know it would but you might even go more than 8 loose cups of kale, and even the squash could have been increased, with a pound of gnocchi. I wouldn't skimp on any of the seasonings, including the crushed red, garlic, and sage. I'm not the biggest fan of sage but a tablespoon chopped wasn't quite enough. I also added a bit of lemon juice at the end which wasn't necessary but was nice. My husband raved about this and he "doesn't like the leafy greens" very much.

Fantastic! Not a fan of sage so I used rosemary instead. The whole family loved it, this will become a staple! Good both as a main course or as a side dish to a meat, served with lamb.
