The first time I made these, I followed the recipe exactly and all I could taste was the baking soda!
The texture was so wonderful though that I made a batch the next day using baking powder instead, and it turned out fabulous! I must say that the baking soda produced a fluffier pancake, so next time I ll try a combination of baking powder and baking soda and Im sure they will be perfect!

These pancakes are great! I'm particular about pancakes and have tried lots of recipes, this in my opinion, is one of the best. Of course, my family and I like sourdough. If you aren't a fan of sourdough, then don't attempt making these. I'm going to try these with a tangy apple syrup I bought at a food festival from a local grower. Should be delicious.

These are amazing! We totally loved them! The recipes was easy to follow and they turned out very nicely. I usually make the starter on Saturday evening so we can enjoy a leisurely breakfast on Sunday morning. They smell wonderful cooking and I actually was thinking of trying them out as a waffle just to see how they would go over. YUM!

I made these in an attempt to try something new to make as a hot breakfast option for my "I get tired of the same ol' thing" 11 year old daughter before school. You have to be a fan of sour dough flavor to appreciate these. My daughter gave it a thumbs up, which means it's a keeper. I used up all the batter to make enough pancakes to store in the frig in a zip top bag so I could pull out and nuke on the mornings she wanted them and I served them with pure maple syrup. A very creative idea and great flavor combination; delightful on a cool fall or winter morning. I plan to take the sour dough batter concept to experiment as savory blini, perhaps mixing in wild rice with creme fraiche for hor d'oeuvres. For those who didn't enjoy them as much as we did, kudos to you for trying something different !

I made this for my fiance. I was really excited about making it and followed the directions carefully. Everything went well until I decided to try the first pancake. It was the most disgusting thing I'd ever made. My fiance spit his out. I think the idea of this is wonderful, but maybe taking the shortcut to make the sourdough starter is not such a good method.

When i made these, they didn't taste like sour dough but more like someone dumped a couple cans of beer into some pancake mix. they also turned out thin and not fluffy, i will not make these again,...... just thought to give you guys the heads up

These were the yummiest homemake pancakes! You do have to know the night before that you want to have them to let the sourdough starter sit all night. I couldn't find apple cider at my store. Apparently that is a seasonal fall item. I used Mott's Natural Fresh Pressed Apple juice (the closest thing to cider I could find. They are very easy and make enough to feed the family. I am definitely doing these again!
