I actually cooked up something like this last night, and just did a search, and was amazed at how similar ours were: I used 2 baby bok choy, each leaf separated and cleaned. Then I used 4 T chili garlic sauce, 1 T each vinegar, brown sugar, golden mountain sauce (I kind of soy and toasted sesame oil. Really delicious! I didn't steam 'em, just cooked 'em on the grill!

I really liked the bok choy prepared this way. It a great change from the normal side dishes. I paired it with the asian bbq chicken from the same issue in the magazine. It's not too sweet. I think next time I'll microwave it a little less time so it can stay on the grill longer to get more of the char and grill marks.

I used baby bok choy, microwaving for only 1 minute as I only prepared two of them, halved as noted in recipe. This made for a beautiful presentation on the dinner plates, and super easy to prepare. I mixed all ingredients exactly as noted in recipe and thought it was wonderful. Just enough sweet and spice. This is a keeper.

So I was nervous trying the recipe after the one star review. I did not add the brown sugar to the recipe, as I had become concerned that it would be too sweet. I will say, that it was NOT too sweet, and I think the recipe as written, with the brown sugar, would work brilliantly. I'll add it next time I make this, and there will be a next time because this was super EASY, beautiful, and delicious. I served it with chili-garlic shrimp and rice noodles.

If you are looking for SWEET and spicy then this is your recipe, but that is definitely not what I was looking for with bok choy. Sorry to say, did not like this at all. Not even the sesame oil or the soy could take enough of the sweet away!
