This is a very tasty dish! I have made it several times now, and it turns out great every time. The first time we made it exactly as written with the exception of omitting the thyme because I don't like thyme. I have since adapted the recipe to my family's personal taste. I made it for lunch today and made these changes---a mixed bag of frozen peas, carrots, corn, and green beans; rosemary and marjoram in place of the thyme; and garlic salt in the toasted panko. I also agree with others about sauteeing the onions a bit before adding the other veggies.

This was very good - loved the toasted panko crumbs on the top,so much so that the next time I make it, I'll toast a few more. It was easy to make. For me, the thyme wasn't overpowering, but that's such a personal taste.

My family loved this! It was easy and quick and very hearty. Kind of like pot pie filling which I loved. I had never toasted my panko crumbs that way and it was fantastic.

I couldn't find JUST peas and carrots so I used a mixed bag of frozen veggies with lima beans, corn and green beans. It was perfect.

Only negative was the amount of thyme. I suggest cutting it by 1/3 or 1/2. Next time I may try topping this with some biscuit dough or pie crust to make it more of a pot pie. Very good!

I sauteed the onions first and used whole milk instead on 2%. The result of awesome.

This was very easy to make. There was a bit of prep work (measuring and cutting It was well worth it. The flavors are amazing. I loved everything about it! My ONLY criticism would be that the portion size is too small. Since there is a starch, protein, and vegetables in there, I didn't have anything I could addd to stretch it or make it bigger. The meal contains everything in it. I LOVE it. Might have to double it next time. My son is extremely picky and he loved this, told me it was delicious and that I made it perfect!

This recipe was great! I did sautee the onions a little more prior to adding everything else..because I too do not care for a raw onion taste. I also added salt and pepper to taste to the gratin mixture to prevent the "bland" that some others have stated. Plus added a little bit of cayenne. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly and am very happy I have leftovers to eat today!! :

This wasn't a bad dish but we found it to be rather bland.

There's way too much thyme in this recipe, so much you can't really taste anything else. The texture is nice, smooth and creamy and the crunch from the panko is really fun! I think I'll change the thyme out for another herb next time, I do like thyme but it's too overpowering used like this and I should have noticed it would be since the ham, veggies and potatoes all have very subtle flavors

It was good, however I would suggest sauteing the onions first before adding anything else into the pan. My dish had an onion-y taste because I think some weren't as cooked through as they should have been. I'm looking forward to trying this again some time, either omitting the onions or sauteing them separate or first. It was really easy to make and I had just about everything on hand.
