This is a 5 star sandwich! My 18 yo didn't look up from it! I also didn't have the Taleggio cheese but since so many reviews tried other cheeses, I did too! We are looking forward to trying several different cheeses in this sandwich. I used homemade bread which made it thick and crusty bread. (sometimes store bread can get soggy I never make sandwiches for a dinner meal but was filling enough for even my hungry boys!

It was so good!! Had to sub Cabot Extra Sharp Cheddar. The apple and caramalized onions made this extra special. And I usually butter the bread when I make a grilled cheese. Got a better texture by buttering the pan instead. I added more butter to the pan for the second side of the grilled cheese. This is a no fail recipe!

For those looking for taleggio cheese, I was able to find it in the Whole Foods Market. They have pretty much every cheese you could ever want! Delicious sandwich. In fact I wish I had one right now!

The combination of ham, cheese, crisp apples and the caramelized onions melted in your mouth. My husband was a skeptic before I made it and he couldn't stop raving about it even after the meal was over. I had to substitute with chambre cheese but it was delicious, amazing!

I made this sandwich for lunch one day, and it was delicious! I also couldnt find the taleggio cheese, and used swiss instead. The apples gave the sandwich great crunch, and paired with the caramelized onions: my mouth is watering, it was so yummy! This sandwich pleased one picky eater in my house, so this was a sure-fire hit! I would recommend this sandwich to anyone and everyone!

I couldn't find taleggio cheese either, but I used a white cheddar and it was absolutely delicious. I never would have thought to put caramelized onions on a ham and cheese, and am so glad I did. The onions and apple together was a knock out!

Made this for lunch today! I was unable to find the taleggio at my small town grocery store, so I did a combo of swiss & provolone cheese. Followed the recipe as written. I was unsure about the apple on the sandwich. Having it nestled next to the savory, caramelized onions was the highlight of the sandwich!! The flavors played off each other so well.....YUM.

I loved this new take on grilled cheese. I almost left out the onions but I'm so glad that I didn't. They give this sandwich a great flavor!
